Miramax finally announces Legend of Zu DVD

Why the hell didn't anyone notice this days ago? Miramax are finally releasing Legend of Zu on DVD, so now Tom can rejoice.

The HK and Korean editions are more than adequate despite their subtitle problems.

Nice to see Buena Vista releasing the films with original audio but changing the title to resemble that of the 1983 film - which I just got today! - is silly and confusing to casual consumers

Ill probably pick this up. Seen the HK edition before, but yeah the issue with the subs.

You gotta love the US trailer for it too trying to make Zhang Ziyi the main character. Huh wait ! ZZ is in this ?

BV sure have taken their time releasing this, they've owned the rights for years.

Surely seamless branching would be in order here but never mind it's just good news to be getting it uncut, even if disc 2 will be a tea coaster (ala all those old MIA releases).

This doesn't look any different really to the HK DVD unless you want a cut English dubbed only version??? The HK DVD has a few more extras all in English or English subs. The AV quality on this disc is great anyway.

American studios do love renaming films so much it makes things so damn confusing. Just look at the mess that is "Armour Of God".

Why change the name? "The Legend of Zu" you'd think would be right up BV's alley and besides calling it "Zu Warriors "makes it sound identical to the original film.

p.s - So what's wrong with the Asian subs? I take it the Korean and HK DVDs are the same? Does the Korean DVD have English subtitled extras too?

The Korean disc is a direct port from the Chinastar disc. (same bitrate, same quality, same subs).

BTW:
Unless I'm mistaken, the french Asian Star edition of LOZ has a master that comes from Miramax.
And since the french picture is completely fucked-up....

The master that was used for the french disc is too dark.
It looks like the colour filters are missing.

Legend of Zu is one of the most inventive, beautiful, poetic and meaningful films ever shot.

It's sitting comfortably at the top of my Top 50 movies of all time with Natural City and Casshern.

I can live without one line being subtitled but as for the conversation that depends how long it is. How long is it?

I'm not keen to pay Disney for the pleasure of giving me a bloody English dubbed coaster disc.

But it's a very important conversation because it explains the entire plot of the next 45 minutes.

I'm pretty sure that those green/orange/blue fliters were all added by master Tsui himself.

Yes it is. IMVHO.

If the 2 minutes are that important I'm not sure the HK DVD is worth getting and it's worth getting the R1 instead.
