James Blunt: He sounds like a whiney bitch and he looks like a whiney bitch...
Can't fucking stand his 'You're beautifull' song, and just caught his newest single this weekend, and can't fucking stand that either. Just something about his voice that makes me wanna vomit...
Coldplay: Some nice songs, good melodies, but after a while they all kinda sound a bit alike. I don't hate coldplay, as I like a couple of their songs, but I wouldnt label myself a fan either...
It's kinda amazing that even after all these years, there still hasnt been a lead-singer that can compare with Freddie Mercury's voice, both in shear power, as well as in sensitivity. I think Mercury is probably the best vocalist of our time...

Who would you say is the best vocalist of the last century. I say last without fear of contradiction as it's hardly likely gonna be anyone who emerged in the last five years.Yi-Long wrote:I think Mercury is probably the best vocalist of our time...
For the record I would say Elvis.
I also think Dean Martin is underrated.
And at his best Tom Jones was a powerhouse.

Although he's Irish would you class Damien Rice in the same catagory?EvaUnit02 wrote:
The generalisation I've come to is that you Brits' are easily amused by simple lyric songs with simple melodies. Eg Coldplay, Katie Melua, etc.

Yeah, she has a gorgeous voice, but after having heard the album a few times, I cant say I'm really into her music: kinda boring and sameygrim_tales wrote:I think Katie is a good singer![]()
She is very pretty also
She looks pretty nice though...

Amen to that!
Not really my type of music either but at least its' different from most of the pop/boyband stuff we normally get. I feel the same way about Powter/Blunt at times, it does get annoying hearing the two big hit songs from them all the time - You're Beautiful and Bad Day (though i like the songs), but it could be worse. It could be the Frog

Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries has a magical voice, pity the band dried up really a few years back.
Most overrated singer? Robbie Williams by a mile, he's not even a very good singer and pretty dull IMO. Why virtually everyone seems to love him I've never managed to work out.
p.s - I love Coldplay's 'Clocks' it has a really haunting tone to it but otherwise they all sound the same.

Mark did say last century so that would actually fit, just.wolf.xl wrote:Although he's Irish would you class Damien Rice in the same catagory?

I wouldn't say that. There is still talent out there. But above average by today's low standards.
But yeah the 1970s for example has some really great singer/song writing.
The market is over saturated with manufactured singers who in honesty don't have much talent; sure the likes of the X-Factor winners can sing but actual talent I don't think so.
