The Monster Legacy Collection [13 Disc Box Set]

Post by slasher13 »

Hi there

The Region 2 looks like to be a winner over Region 1, has anyone got this boxset.

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sear ... x=0&Go.y=0

It has the following:
The Dracula Legacy

1. Dracula (1931)
2. Son Of Dracula (1943) and House Of Dracula (1945)
3. Dracula (Spanish language version) (1931) and Dracula's Daughter (1936), plus bonus footage

The Frankenstein Legacy

1. Frankenstein (1931)
2. The Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)
3. Son Of Frankenstein (1939) and Ghost Of Frankenstein (1942)
4. House Of Frankenstein (1944), plus bonus footage

The Wolf Man Legacy

1. The Wolf Man (1941)
2. Werewolf Of London (1935) and She Wolf Of London (1946)
3. Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man (1943), plus bonus footage
4. A documentary of horror from the Universal studio, narrated by Kenneth Branagh

The Monster Legacy

1. The Mummy (1932)
2. The Invisible Man (1933)
3. Phantom Of The Opera (1943)
4. Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954)
Looks like a pretty good set, i was going to get the region 1 version, but checking out this, it seems that the r2 set is alot better.

Hmmm, they must be better than Coppola's dire Dracula or Kenneth Branagh's rubbish Frankenstein and all the Stephen Sommer blockbuster bollocks combined.

Yeah, I've seen parts of the '33 Dracula with Bela Lugosi. Quite decent as I recall.

Hey Slasher,
Did you notice if any of the discs had been remastered or not? I might pick up some of the cheaper, seperate releases if they have been.

Hi Grim,

I believe they are a straight port of the US release, so i would imagine that they are the remastered one :)

Kind Regards

region 1 versions are the way to go with this series. region 1 for example contains the superior spanish version of the 1931 dracula which i don't believe the region 2 does 9could be wrong though)

Hey saltysam, i was wondering when you going to comment to this thread ;)

If you see dvdcompare, they have not mention of this boxset, so it possible they don't have this information at the moment. Looking at other etailer, i can see that the dracula dvd does have the spanish version. Check out this dvdtime article

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=13004

Quick copy and paste methink :)
Universal Pictures Video have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of The Monster Legacy Collection on 25th October 2004 priced at £84.99. This unique multi-DVD set includes some of the most memorable landmark films ever; thrilling classics that not only established a major movie genre, but also inspired the 2004 epic adventure film event Van Helsing.

Starring renowned actors Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney, Jr. in the roles and films that made them screen legends. The Monster Legacy Collection includes the three original films - Frankenstein (1931), Dracula (1931), The Wolf Man (1941) plus fourteen additional movies.

To make the set even more collectable for Horror aficionados, three limited edition collectable figurines of Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man are also included. This collection – exclusive to the UK – also includes the acclaimed documentary Universal Horror narrated by Kenneth Branagh.

The complete set of films included are: Dracula (1931), Dracula, The Spanish Language Version, Dracula's Daughter, Son of Dracula, House of Dracula, The Wolf Man (1941), Werewolf of London (1935), She Wolf of London, Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, Frankenstein (1931), Bride of Frankenstein, The Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, House of Frankenstein, The Mummy (with Boris Karloff), The Invisible Man, Phantom of the Opera and Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Each Universal Monsters’ Legacy Box Set contains:

* 3 collector’s figures (Dracula, Wolf Man and Frankenstein’s Monster)
* The Universal Monsters 1 ½ hour DVD documentary, narrated by Kenneth Branagh.
* Bonus original footage is included for Dracula’s Daughter, Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man and House Of Frankenstein.
So this boxset is much better than the R1 boxset, as there is more movies, a new documentary and cheaper :)

Hmm, I'd like to see The Invisible Man/Mummy but dont want the whole boxset :)
What extras does each disc have?
Is each "Legacy" not being sold seperately? There are 2 disc SE's (with say, Mummy and Creature from Black Lagoon) on them.

For the mummy disk which is to buy now, it has the following
The Mummy Boris Karloff's role in the 1932 version of The Mummy has become a landmark in the annals of screen history. Karloff plays Im-Ho-Tep, the mummy, who is accidently revived after 3,700 years by a British archaeology team. In a flashback we find that he was a high priest who was embalmed alive for trying to revive a vestal virgin whom he loved after she was sacrificed. Now, dressed in the garb of a modern-day Egyptian, he sets out to find his lost love, mistaking Helen Grosvenor for her in the process, and terrorising the members of the expedition who must find away to stop him. Today, The Mummy film remains a horror masterpiece.

Creature From The Black Lagoon In this trend-setting classic, a scientific expedition ventures into the upper reaches of the Amazon and discovers a "Gill Man", a living amphibious missing link. The scientists drug and capture the creature, who becomes enamoured with the head scientist's female assistant. But the lonely creature escapes and kidnaps the object of his affection while she swims seductively in his watery home. The chief scientist launches a crusade to retrieve his assistant and casts the creature back to the black depths from which he came. Well-acted and directed, and with Bud Westmore's brilliantly designed monster, Creature From The Black Lagoon is an enduring tribute to the imaginative genius of its Hollywood creators.

Okay seen Dracula, the actual Dracula case has 3 disks in it, one for the original movie, spanish movie and one dvd contains Son Of Dracula and House Of Dracula. The r1 version has 2 disks, which is a dvd18 and a dvd 9 i believe, so i am glad, there is no dvd18 in this set :D :D
