The Lama Avenger 1.5/5 Slightly better than the norm Bruce Li actioner.some decent action but it lets itself down when for the first two thirds ignoring the clone angle suddenly decides to have Li's character become a kung fu movie star.

Dragon On Fire 0.5/5 Dreadful kung fu actioner/Bruceploitation with Dragon Lee,Phillip Ko and Bolo.

I watched a couple of weeks ago Dragon Lee Fights Again (1978: Lu Po Tu) aka Big Boss 2 aka Dragon Bruce Lee, Part II surprisingly with both Ko and Bolo. After that I am not really in the mood to see any more Bruceploitation films for a while. It was bad, really bad and my time could be better spent with other films or just wondering around aimlessly on the freeway.

I believe it is a South Korean film technically.

Probably. I could not find any information on it at HKFA (though their search is not working as good as it used to.) There's a decent amount of Korean actors plus it looks like it is filmed in South Korea. Budget is very low.

Bruce Lee Against Supermen 1/5 insanely bad Bruce Li vehicle makes it to one star rating due to a good climactic face off with a white cape wearing Lung Fei.Absolutely bonkers throughout,see Bruce Li out run a speeding car,thrill to a gun vs catapult shoot out,see The Green Hornet played by a european hippie scruff wearing a red suit, listen to dialogue exchanges like "my father has disappeared" reply "do you mean he's missing"

Bruce Against Iron Hand 1.5/5 slightly above average Bruce Li vehicle,helped by having the superior Bruce Liang along for the ride.Despite the title, plotwise not a Bruceploitation movie.

Dynamo 2/5 Above average Bruce Li starrer,though it's Bruceploitation (he wears a GOD tracksuit,becomes a movie star) it has decent action and the semblance of a plotline.it actually shows a bit of wit early on... New female boss to underlings "i'm a laxative,here to clear out the old crap"

Bruce Lee's Secret 3.5/5 Insane Bruce Li film i can't help revisting,especially now i have the widescreen print. Bruce & his mate struggle to find work in San Francisco,and when they do they meet trouble.great cast includes Carter Wong,Hwang Jang Lee and Paul Wei in a virtual reprise of his role from Way.This needs a Criterion or Arrow restoration

Someone at KFC states that HKFA has a copy of Chang Cheh's Tiger Boy. I query their (HKFA) database but nothing comes up (as a film). Has anyone read/heard of a real Tiger Boy copy floating around?

No, I don't think anyone has this - has it even been seen since 1965? If a print did exist it would likely be with either Shaw Brothers or the archive. Until it's confirmed, we're talking speculation. I really wouldn't hold your breath seeing this one ever.

The Street Fighter 3.5/5 you know this isn't your average movie when in the opening 15 minutes the "hero" reacts by being stiffed on payment of his bounty for rescuing a prisoner by killing the brother and selling the sister into prostitution fast moving,visceral and to the point,some of the violence is a little caroonish but i can imagine it being shocking back in the day.Sonny Chiba is magnetic as Takuma "Terry" Tsurgui

Return Of The Street Fighter 3/5 Sequel isn't as good as the first but Chiba is ace again and the climactic 10 minute battle is awesomely great.

Street Fighter's Last Revenge 2/5 Definitely the least in the trilogy,Tsurgui here has transformed into a spy of sorts,a master of disguise and and has developed a conscience. Certainly toned down from the first two,it livens up for the climax.

I always thought Street Fighter's Last Revenge was terribly underrated. Not Chiba's finest moment by any means, but it's quite a lot of fun. Great cast, fun jokes, good end fight and the sountrack is (again) used to a great effect. Better than Return Of The Street Fighter, which has great second half but pretty messy first 45 minutes.

The original is of course one of the finest movies ever made.

I'll be mini-reviewing shitloads of Chiba once I complete my task of seeing 100 Chiba movies. I'm now at 88.

My Sex Report: Intensities (Japan, 1976) [DVD] - 3.5/5
This film is often seen as Chusei Sone's return to form. It's an odd mixture of melancholic character drama, sex, and funkiness; not an entirely satisfactory film, but a frequently fascinating one. It's a about a nurse, her boyfriend, a local gangster and his girlfriend. Basically, it plays out like a fragmented slice of life piece with a pop attitude. There's over-the-top sleaze, there's imaginative camerawork, there's harrowing moments between young lovers, and there's a beautiful score that occasionally switches to silly funk. Add some great footage from the neon-lit streets of the 1970s Shinjuku and a some of tiresome sex scenes, and you've got a film that could only have been made in the 1970s Japan.

Nurses' Journal: Animal In the Afternoon (Japan, 1982) [DVD] - 2.5/5
Naosuke Kurosawa was one of the most interesting directors who worked in the Roman Porno genre. He seemed to approach just about any topic from an excessively visual standpoint. His first two films were the Japanese pink giallo Zoom In: Rape Apartments (1980) and the neo-noir Love Beast: Attack! (1981). This is his third movie, a surreal science fiction sex nightmare that seemingly bears very little resemblance to its predecessors in the Nurses' Journal series. The plot, which features some kind of dream intrusion device, is utter non-sense, and the film is frankly quite a mess; however, it is full of whacky and nightmarish imagery you'd never expect to find in a movie called Nurses' Journal. It's an interesting, rather entertaining piece for most of the time, but at the same time too nonsensical and uneven with its compulsory soft-core sex to be genuinely good. Kurosawa's next film, the existential city film Ecstasy Sisters, however, was to be his masterpiece.

Only seen the first of the Street Fighter series and didn't like it much. Tons of violence, but otherwise poor and Chiba's on screen martial arts is only marginally better than mine.

It's a bit sad that a lot of Chiba's best stunt work is either on TV or in movies that haven't been distributed outside of Japan. Stuff like Key Hunter (1967-1971), which made both Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan fans of Chiba. Or Jail Breakers (1976) in which Chiba escapes prison by holding on to ladders from a helicopter, changes his clothes mid-air, then drops on top of a moving van and finally jumps to another car.

His acting in some of his 70s movies was... well, quite something.

Acting wise my favorite period from Chiba's career would actually be around 1962-1963. He had nice youthful charm at that time and he was remarkably handsome, too. His performance in Fukasaku's Gang vs. G-Men (1962) is actually the best in the movie, and it stars Koji Tsuruta and Tetsuro Tamba. He's pretty fun to watch in Yakuza's Song (1963) too, even if it's not quite oscar worthy acting.

Golgo 13: Optimum UK should be the best. It's the one I've got. I used to have the US disc (Ronin Entertainment) too which is not so bad but quite a bit darker.
