I don't know the details, but I think he has lived half of his life in USA. From his website:

Born in Tokyo, he was inspired by "Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx" at an early age and aspired to be a film director.
He later attended the California Institute of the Arts and received a masters degree in filmmaking. After which he made his directorial debut with "Monsters Don’t Get to Cry". He’s also a member of the Screen Actors Guild and performed on such TV shows as "Heroes" and "Ugly Betty."

And wiki mentions he went to school in USA already before that as well:

Just watched this movie, and I really enjoyed it. I also nearly threw up during some parts, because of the themes involving the body. Damn this movie is violent!

She speaks only a number. Asami is badass in this one, and she just looks so stunning here with that long, thickly dark hair.

There is some cheap-looking CGI in the movie, but I don't really mind. Given the fact that they shot it in 12 days on the lowest of budgets, it's quite understandable that they used CGI for some scenes. Some of the gun effects I thought looked kind of cheap too, but whatever... It's a low budget action movie shot on Digital Video in 12 days - it's hard make a movie like that in a month. The practical effects are really good here, though, and the action scenes involving Asami are splendid. I really like that scene where she fights the big, bald guard - it's really raw and well made, in my opinion.

I've always said that these movies are really made for women.

Thanks for the info.

Wow, what a ridiculous call. I can understand (though not accept) BBFC's policy against romanticized sexual violence to some extent, but Gun Woman's sexual violence is not of the "sexy rape" department that you see in some other Japanese films, it's the "ridiculously-disturbing-necrophilia-to-make-you-hate-the-villain" violence. I don't think even a psychopath could get turned on by it...

Well, at least I don't remember any other type of sexual violence in the film. Someone who has seen the film of recent can prove me wrong if necessary.

The U.K. has a history of being ridiculous in their censoring, though...

Scream Factory will release the film in the US on May 26th.

Coincidentally (?), the same director's earlier film Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf (2009) is also getting a Blu-ray special edition in the US in May from Synapse.

Interview with Mitsutake:
http://twitchfilm.com/2015/05/interview ... nd-ba.html
I can't disclose the title yet, but the new feature is going to be a martial arts movie. It's a project that was offered to me out of the blue. I didn't develop this one like the other ones, but they're letting me write the script so it's going to be my vision, my concept.

This amazing martial artist from Japan was presented to me, and my mission is to make him a movie star. He's amazing, he does karate, but it's a karate that no one has seen before. Kind of a dark side of karate, a pure assassination karate and I'm super excited.
