sin city unrated and extended shocker !!

Post by saltysam »

ok this is out in a few weeks on region 1 (mine is on preorder love the movie) however it's now out through "unofficial" sources and apparently of the 23 minutes of new footage 19 minutes are credits leaving only 4 minutes of new footage  what a swizz  apparently as the 4 episodes have been reedited as 4 seperate stories each story has opening & closing credits hence the extended running time

Still 4 minutes is better than nothing.

Surely that means only 1 minute is dedicated to each story???

You can guess that if you like, but I am sure it wont be as even as that. :D it could be 1 second in all but one for all we know :) time will tell on this one.

The thing is there is a lot of footage as the cast have spoken about the scenes, it looks like they are nor adding in much then and are just scrapping the rest of the footage, sad if you ask me that they are allowed to lie like this in the dvd advertising, they should say how much real footage there is.

The thing that gets to me is seperate credits for each film  totally pointless of you ask me, unless there is a play all button which plays all segments with no credits until the whole lot have finished, looks like I will just be borrowing the normal cut to normal people as they wont want seperate films with seperate credits that for sure. As its one film, and if they have seperate credits then its not one film.

How are they lying? Credits are also footage (technically).

all segments can't end with the same credits as not everyone participated in the same segments... as far as I know there's also supposedly at "play all" option... the disc is also supposed to include the original theatrical cut... on disc 1... and the "recuts" on disc 2...

I find it odd that they didn't use branching for this, as has been done successfully on other discs... that way they could have 3 versions on disc 1... original, extended and single episodes...

personally I'll withold judgment untill I can see the disc myself.

edit: I went and had a look at this "unoffical" thing... and counted the mins of actual footage sans credits (which are different for each part though!) ...

Actual footage in this is 122:56 mins. The original theatrical release clocked in at about 124 - so if we guess that credits and intro for that would clock in at 6 mins (?) there's "just" about 5 minutes of footage added. Now, since it's "recut" and "extended" that may mean some stuff may be missing from the the "new" version as opposed to the edited version.

But I guess we can conclude that they lied abit about the amount of new footage :D If I remember correctly the extended versions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy posted extended runtimes sans credits. Which really is the way to go...

Still, I only look at the runtimes, I didn't look at the actual content to see how much was new... that I won't do until I have the retail version of both editions in my hand. (It's sad they included the original version on this 2 disc set though :-/).
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I didn't really like Sin City all that much anyway so it doesn't bother me however I doubt they would include credits into the category of new footage. I would be very surprised if it was only a few minutes longer. I reckon there will be 20 odd minutes of new scenes not including credits but only time will tell.

One thing I did think it was daft was that the theatrical version is DTS yet extended version can only be watched in Dolby Digital 5.1

Its been confirmed by early reviwers with early copies that it is 4 minutes only, look at the link above for proof and pics :)

Its still a load of crap if you ask me I want a lot more than 4 minutes :( still it is the best version by a mile as I wont go near the barebones rip off 1st release even for pennies!

I did go near it... just for the Alba cover :D ... (and yes because I'm a Miller completist - which can be quite expensive )

I also bought the theatrical version with a very nice special edition on region 3 but I didn't enjoy the film enough to warrant the cost of the DVD and sold it on.

Sin City is a stylish and fun popcorn movie, but also very soulless. I have no desire to own it at the moment - maybe when they do a trilogy boxset with Sin City 2 & 3.
