The basic Cantonese/Mandarin thread :-D

Post by grim_tales »

Have you picked up any Canto/Mandarin words while watching an HK film? I can say a few Mandarin words now (thanks to my friend) - not sure if I have the pinyin right though!

Ni hao = Hi

Ni hao ma? = How are you?

Wa hung hua (sp?) = I am fine!

Sheh sheh (sp?) = Thankyou

Zai jian = Goodbye

:)

I know Mandarin:

Xi shou jian zai na li? - Where's the toilet?

I also know sheh sheh (meaning thank you). I tried this line with a Mandarin waitress last night but she had none of it. Plus she was married but words cannot express her hotness. I might go back tonight actually....

What you said "Where's the toilet" or "thankyou"? in Mandarin to the waitress? Is that a proposition in Mandarin or something? :D (I just wondered why you said, she was having none of it).
Good luck anyway Bisc ;)

My friends name is Liang-Liang :)

I managed to grasp this one while in China but this one:
Originally posted by grim_talesSheh sheh (sp?) = Thankyou
Completely lost me. I tried really hard but in the end gave up and stuck to "Hello".

Normally I can get the hang of "Thank you" and "Hello" the two most important words to learn in any language.
