Crows Explode (Toshiyaki Toyoda, 2014)

Released today. I was covering this on another forum before, so let me just copy-paste some of the earlier stuff to give you the background.

Toshiaki Toyoda to direct new Crows movie “Crows EXPLODE”

Wow, this is interesting. Although Toyoda's last two films (Monster's Club and I'm Flash) has been a bit underwhelming, his early 2000's films are gems, especially Hanging Garden, and the high school violence film Blue Spring.

Though I'm not holding my breath yet, I gotta say I was amused with the sakura.

The trailer doesn't look that interesting - I was expecting more from a Toshiaki Toyoda film. But perhaps the film is better. Let's see.

I hated Miike's original Crow's Zero. Except for the music and final fight, nothing really worked in it. Flashy editing was the worst. The sequel, however, was quite entertaining. Much better on every front, again with great music, plus homoerotic to no end. Meisa Kuroki and her R&B are in the wrong pic, though.

Japan Times review:

Doesn't sound (or look) that interesting to me... plus there's been so many great Japanese films recently that I find it difficult to motivate myself to go see something that doesn't seem so promising to begin with...
