I had seen it years ago on dvd and was left a bit underwhelmed...RetroRobot wrote:1990: The Bronx Warriors (1982)
I love almost all of Castellari's 70's flicks, but as he moved into the 80's, things went a little askew. As a whole, I don't care too much for this film. Seen it a couple of times before, and hated it. But certain scenes here and there still have the old Castellari touch, and the credit intro is awesome. Im slowly warming to this, I guess. I loooooove The Warriors and I like Escape From New York, even though I think it's one of Carpenter's weaker efforts from this period. And let's face it, these are the flicks that Castellari are aping here. But sometimes the movie just looks and feels too cheap and cheesy for its own good. A lot of individual scenes play very nicely, while others are just groan inducing or unintenionally hilarious. An uneven but somewhat enjoyable movie.
... but the I got to see it on 35mm on a large screen in Helsinki - with Castellari sitting almost next to me. Needless to say, the experience was five stars out of four, and I had quite a blast with the film, too.

Castellari himself was just a great guy. Very nice to everyone, hanging out with the audience, sharing trivia about his films, and finishing his night in a disco where he was reported dancing with young Finnish girls
