i'm sorry, but at the risk of being a hypocrite (slating other people who dismiss a film without seeing it) this film looks absolutely woeful, cut or uncut and i have absolutely no interest in seeing t.

A Serbian Film - The US finally get it uncut (on dvd)

This is actually playing in a cinema next door to me, but I can only imagine how much fogging censorhip there would be... Sometimes it sucks to live in Japan Image

That being said, I maybe still remember the film a bit too well after 1½ years to watch it again quite yet... not exactly a film you forget very soon...

Well, I actually sat down to watch this last night completely uncut and it might be the first film to hit me with (two) scenes that I wish I could un-watch now!

The allegory is obvious enough but the entire premise and tone of the film was just too absurd for me to take that seriously. I've read interviews with the director and he comes across as either extremely pretentious or tediously over-zealous in selling the "message" of the movie (and the same could be said about the film itself I suppose). He's put together a competent enough, cynical psycho-thriller (a little too competent in places!) but the unflinching depiction of child rape in A Serbian Film, whilst obviously shocking, ultimately strikes me as very, very lazy. Creative filmmakers know less is more.

Oh and Mark, you know how you can never predict how someone will react to a film? Treat this as an exception to the rule & avoid like the plague mate! :D

Friedkin hasn't made a good movie in 40 years.

Does anyone care about his opinion?
