Take That
Anyone notice the "For The Record" program on ITV tonight where the group members are interviewed (they were all interviewed in 2004/05 I think but not sure).
In retrospect, Take That weren't so bad IMO
Certainly better than the likes of Westlife in boyband terms. Back For Good (1995) was a lovely song

I actually thought they were pretty good at the time.....
But when you look back now and compare them to teh boy bands today...They look like MULTI TALENTED GENIUSES........
ina a rlated note..Saw Robbie Williams new video on tv tonght.......Is he still popular over there...He is like a god in Asia.....
What happened to the rest of them?

The only decent Take That song I can think of is 'Back For Good' though there may have been one or two other ones that didn't suck. Their early stuff was particularly awful (I caught some of it on a VH1 Special)
Westlife are worse and still dominate the UK charts. I wish they would move to Korea. No offence Killer.

Well, like them or not, Take That were original. Boyzone copied Take That and then Westlife copied Boyzone. Like a generational bootleg, each copy gets worse. The problem with the latter two bands is that Louis Walsh essentially made them cover artists, copying other people's songs (often from Country Music) that had already been done better. Like wedding entertainers they were bland and without substance. Westlife's karaoke version of Terry Jacks' meaningful Season in the Sun made me shudder. A lot of Take That material was crap, but at least it was original crap usually. They tried not to ruin good songs.
I like Club Tropicana and Last Christmas (though it's overfamiliar around the festive season). Ah well, sue me.

I agree, Westlife's versions of the meaningful I Have A Dream (ABBA) and Seasons In the Sun (Terry Jacks) were terrible and destroyed all the emotion of the originals :x. Boyzone's version of Love Me For A Reason was exactly the same as the Osmond's version
That said, I really liked Boyzone's version of Father and Son, IMO better than Cat Stevens' version
