LOL
I signed up to Shout Factory's forum to alert them to be careful about fake mono tracks. I strongly urge folks here to do the same.

Worth mentioning then that The Protector's original soundtrack should be English 2.0 Stereo (which Warners have... and not the 2.0 downmix Fortune Star tried to foist on us).

Good man.
Worst/just as bad would be video upscales.

Oh dear!
http://hkfilm.net/dvdrevs/jackiedouble.htm
"Crime Story... Unfortunately, the included English dubbed track is the same one that was included on the Miramax version, and the subtitles follow this track, meaning they are "dubtitles" and sometimes not an accurate translation of the original Cantonese dialogue track, which is available."
"The source materials for this Blu-ray are from the versions previously released by Fortune Star in Asia, which were upconversions, rather than true HD remasters."
Looks like we'll never see proper HD versions of these classics.

The review doesn't say if it's genuine mono either...

That probably confirms we'll be getting the FS transfers for their Lee films then.

It says something about how shoddy FS are that we can wipe our hands of the lot after one release!

At least those were genuine HD.saltysam wrote:That probably confirms we'll be getting the FS transfers for their Lee films then.
But yeah, very disappointing to see Shout Factory (the breakout success of 2012?) dirty their hands with inferior product (which they'll no doubt charge a premium for). Doesn't anyone have the balls (or knowledge) to tell Fortune Star 'no'? Frankly if I were SF I would've turned the offer down rather than pay for upscaled monoless garbage. Seriously. I still have my R3 DVD of Crime Story which has Cantonese mono and HKL's subs. And am not that bothered about The Protector, which would've been a nice extra, but that's all.

What I don't get is why they couldn't get a HD print of the Protector from Warner.

With any luck Warners will put out their own edition.

Warners has totally embraced the over-priced DVDR route.

Disgraceful. Shout Factory should hang their heads in shame.

One day, I will learn to read the whole thread and not just the last post, and then these will make sense to me :p.Markgway wrote:Disgraceful. Shout Factory should hang their heads in shame.
Did the Weinsten's lose the rights to that movie? I'd much rather have Shout! handling it than them. Dragon Dynasty still seems to be going strong and Dsney doesn't look like they'll ever lose the right to their stuff, what makes Crime Story and outlier? Did they never have it to begin with?
