Rumble in the Bronx UK Blu Ray - opinions?
Apprently this is pretty crap for a BD (PQ wise) but was wondering if it was worth upgrading my old R1 release (the very old one with a 4/3 version one side and anamorphic on the other) - the Blu cant be that bad stacked against that

What's the point when they're still not even offering us the HK cut?

Good point
Another silly question but while looking for a BD of Rumble, I came across this "Red Cliff 2"
Does it mean Red Cliff: Part 2 (how Red Cliff was split in two) or is it an actual sequel? I didnt even know they made one.

Maybe Grim prefers the New Line cut?
I think the movie is pants in any version.
If the Miramax BD is genuine HD it should be worth the upgrade.
Who knows if or when the HK version will be made available?

Can't remember seeing the HK cut? - the dub isnt that bad IIRC since Jackie did his own voice for all those US dubs.
Oh wait, maybe I did see the HK cut once but it was a "Funny" Taiwan DVD in Mandarin or something.
@ Gas, thanks for the info on Red Cliff

I would say it's the worst, alongside Thunderbolt.grim_tales wrote:IMO you're wrongOne of Jackie's better 90's American films (by that I mean movies he made in HK but were released in the US as well) movies imo. Who Am I? is the best out of those
Who Am I? is probably the best of that era.
Half of Rumble was sync-sound English originally, but New Line redubbed much of it anyways.

I'm sick of lazy releases, if you've already got the DVD then don't waste your money on this shit, you won't get any more enjoyment out of it anyway.

I didn't care for Rumble and much of what followed...loved first Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon, but otherwise a colossal waste.

If you like Rumble then this Blu ray is a vast improvement on the DVD release. Sure its a bit contrast boosted but overall an ok release.

Jackie's style at the time was audience-focussed fun. He was pulling out all the stops to make some of his most broadly entertaining and exciting films of his career. Rumble is a great example of that, possibly the peak in fact.

Why? OK the plot is a rip off of Way of the Dragon it can be argued, but I enjoyed the film, its a fun film

totally agree, Rumble won't re-invent the wheel but it's a free-wheeling,fast paced and most importantly entertaining actioner with excellent re-watch value.

Re: Rumble in the Bronx UK Blu Ray - opinions?
10 things that are seriously awry with Rumble in the Bronx:
1. Jackie Chan's character is supposed to be a Hong Kong cop. Make that the most useless cop in the world. Ever. Including the ones from Police Academy 6.
2. Jackie faking stunts for the outtakes. Er, isn't that Stanley Tong doing the roof jump? Oh, dear.
3. There are no mountains visible from New York.
4. If the dialogue on the page sounds as though it were written in crayon by a slow 5-year-old... change it.
5. A multi-ethnic street gang of the kind you only get in bad movies tries to murder Jackie with baseball bats and broken glass, but that's OK, because there's a big boss figure and he plays golf. The bastard!
6. We're supposed to find Jackie's romance with Francoise Yip cute even though she's a cunt who tried to get him killed.
7. Don't fuck with a crippled boy's cushion!
8. Casting your movie with Canada's worst actors is not a good idea.
9. Poor Anita Mui is grossly wasted and shown sitting on a toilet.
10. The woodchipper scene.

Mid/late 90's was the worst era of Jackie's career, the time when his movies resembled (bad) straight to video flicks more than theatrical releases...
