Yes, well, theatrical soundtrack. I'm assuming the Sony/HKL soundtrack came first in the creative process.luckystars wrote:First saw this on the MIHK tape. I guess that was the original soundtrack?

I still can't my head around how just play wrong HKL's HEART OF THE DRAGON sounds. Sounds like they (Media Asia) re-recorded the foley, then played it at a much quieter level than everything else.Markgway wrote:
I watched bits of HKL's Full Contact last night and although most of it sounds like compressed mono, whenever any seperation occured it jarred like a finger being slammed in a door..

Unfortunately, unlike Full Contact, there's no edition of Heart of Dragon that offers the orignal mono. We're stuck with the HKL.

I like the music arranging on the HKL's Cantonese track. It's quite atmospheric NOT to have music in some scenes.

I have the Megastar DVD, and find it fine for viewing. I only picked up the HKL for the extras.

Agreed. The Sony DVD has the same mix but in mono.Ivan Drago wrote:I like the music arranging on the HKL's Cantonese track. It's quite atmospheric NOT to have music in some scenes.

AFAIK all of those Mega Star DVDs were 5.1 remixes and letterboxed. I think the only area where it's superior to the HKL is the subtitles.luckystars wrote:

I didn't know there was a MegaStar dvd. I have the Universe one (had HKL, too, but sold it). Anyone know if Megastar has better transfer?Markgway wrote:AFAIK all of those Mega Star DVDs were 5.1 remixes and letterboxed. I have a few MegaStar dvds and even though they're 5.1, I think the mixes are essentially mono in 5.1 format... with maybe one or two new effects. Or am I wrong?

Yeah the Megastar is letterboxed....
But the remix is as Hung says, subs are fine, PQ is 'what you'd expect' and there isn't the framecuts (possible censorship) you got on the Universe DVD.
Its just a 'no frills' representation of the film.

I wouldn't be willing to give up the anamorphic picture that's on the HKL.
Even if the Mega Star/Universe 5.1 mixes don't add new sound (which they often do) they tend to have that horrible sewer pipe echo.
I'm actually after the first Universe pressing of Fong Sai-Yuk for that reason. The "remastered" edition had optional subs but buggered up the audio big time and was still crappy letterbox.

Funny, I'd say the HKL dubtitles and terrible remix......far outway having issues with a letterbox print.

That echo really pisses me off too.Markgway wrote:Even if the Mega Star/Universe 5.1 mixes don't add new sound (which they often do) they tend to have that horrible sewer pipe echo.
I considered the same but the burnt in subs look dreadful and despite being letterbox it is better. The subs were the clincher though. I've considered the blu-ray. I know it's cut but at least it's not letterbox (neither is the DVD), has removable subs and Cantonese Mono (I'm pretty sure it's original).Markgway wrote:I'm actually after the first Universe pressing of Fong Sai-Yuk for that reason.
