I'm looking forward to subsequent viewings and looking at it in different ways (I viewed it this first time as if they were ghosts), sometimes the repetitive dialogue got a bit annoying, but it's an excellent film.

The Trouble With Harry (1955)

Not the best Hitch I've seen but it was still an enjoyable, blackly comic whodunnit. In a way some of the story is the opposite of Les Diaboliques (1954), where in LD the body goes missing and can't be found, in this film a body keeps getting dug up. LD is far more terrifying.

"The Inbetweeners Movie was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version. The company was informed that the film was likely to receive an 18 classification but the preferred 15 classification could be achieved by making cuts in four scenes. These were:
•to remove an aggressive use of very strong language,
•to remove a particularly crude verbal sex reference (to urolagnia)
•and to reduce the explicitness of two scenes of sexual activity (one of self-fellatio and one of masturbation).

When the completed version of the film was submitted, the aggressive use of very strong language had been redubbed, the crude verbal sex reference had been removed, and the strong scenes of sexual activity had been reduced, by a mixture of cutting and reframing. The film was therefore classified 15 without further cuts."

Amusingly silly Piranha rip-off.

Marnie (USA, 1964) – 3/5
A lesser Hitchcock drags during its first half, not least because of some less-than-exciting Tippi Hedren melodrama, but manages an interesting psychological game during its second half. Sean Connery is quite excellent, too.

Ninja Assassin (USA, 2010) – 2.5/5
Unexpectedly promising, but ultimately disappointing modern Hollywood ninja pic. The opening 30 minutes are quite terrific – pure 80’s ninja coolness (with bucket loads of not-so-distracting CG-blood that takes Hollywood violence to a new hyper level). Sadly, the film doesn’t manage to build up on the premise, but instead becomes less interesting with action scenes edited to shreds and CG-blood becoming more distracting every time it’s used. Still, even with its weaknesses it’s an entertaining macho ride that easily beats some other recent ninja films, like Shinobi - Heart Under Blade. Plus, we’ve got Sho Kosugi in a rather big role as an evil ninja master.

Puss in Boots (US, 2011): 4/5

I have to say I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Though not as intrinsically funny as the Shrek films (its still funny though with more universal humour), Antonio Banderas shows why Puss in Boots stole the scenes he was in in that series - in this film which has a surprisingly dark story - with themes of abondonment and betrayal, despite the fairytale subplot.
There are some clever references and cues to spaghetti Westerns and Morricone (music and use of split screen panels) and possibly Zorro too given that Banderas plays Puss like a feline version of his Zorro character.
The animation is excellent, particularly in the detail on Puss himself and Humpty, and also on water. The "dance-fight" near the start was particularly funny

It was OK but it dragged on and it had fast-cut fight scenes which I hate. I haven't seen the first one.

Funnier version of Kick-Ass, but overall a slightly lesser film. Ellen Page was nuts!

Torn Curtain (1966): 4/5

Solid and exciting espionage/Cold War thriller with some great scenes. Its a bit too long though but interesting since the two leads aren't typical Hitchcock types (Cary Grant-esque), Paul Newman and Julie Andrews were both cast against type.
