The Last Days of the World (Eiji Uchida) (2011)

Post by HungFist »

世界最後の日々 (Sekai saigo no hibi) (2011)

A return to the trippy, socially-engaged, blackly comic, ridiculously violent revolutionary movies of Japan's 60's. A high school student has a vision that the world is ending and so, faced with no consequences, he abducts a fellow student and goes on a crime spree.

A road-movie that weaves both reality and the imaginary. Throughout the movie, the main character runs into many odd characters, such as a middle-aged sailor uniform cos-player, a kimono-wearing heartbroken rock singer, and a blind beauty, somehow all strange and sorrow-filled.

New film by Eiji Uchida. This guy may not be the most refined filmmaker in Japan, but there's something interesting about his edgy filmmaking. This new film is made sound quite interesting by NYAFF's synopsis, and like a potential disaste by Pict Dept. synopsis. Looking forward to seeing how it will turn out.

No trailer or official site yet.

Love the poster quotes
