BBFC has passed the International Version with no cuts. That's no surprise.

I'm only (slightly) worried about the Original Version with its school girl cannibalism...

ok, here's a question to Mark, Shing, Gas, or whoever here might know these things. BBFC has only rated the Internation version (105 min), but the upcoming DVD & BD release is said to feature both the Internation Version and the gorier Original Version (118 min). Shouldn't BBFC rate them both, or won't they just bother putting it on their website? Can you recall any other similar cases where two cuts were featured in the same release?

Or could this Int. Version rating be for some other reason? I doubt the film will be given theatrical run, but some festival showing? But then again, the rating is dated for August 1, although the film has been screened in the UK already several months ago...

The home video release is set for Oct. 31

It's definitely for the BD/DVD release because it says 'Type: Video', but yeah they would need to rate both cuts of the film if they're both appearing on the disc.

Every version has to be rated as a separate work.
If the UK DVD/BD is to contain the dir's cut then it will have to be passed by the BBFC first.
The record should show up on their website as per usual.
If it doesn't you could always contact them about it.

Payback.

Maybe they haven't classified it yet or just not added it to their online database, who knows. Is the highschool cannibalism particularly graphic or features particularly young teens or any sexual angle? If not then it should make it through unscathed.

Also it depends if the high school cannibalism is real, the BBFC won't allow that.

Is there a law against real cannibalism on screen?

Has this EVER been tested? :o :D

I haven't seen this version cause the damn Germans only screened the Internation Version. But there's a clip of it in the Sushi preview video (at 1:09)

Perhaps not overly graphic, though, as the film is rated R-15 in Japan (but then again, many UK 18 rated films are PG-12 in Japan, such as Alien vs. Ninja). Tokyo Gore Police was R-18.

Sushi Typhoon confirms: Well Go USA edition will be the full uncut version.

Now this is getting interesting. The UK release has only one day advantage in terms of release date. Let's see which company can get better extras and artwork...

BBFC has serious difficulties spellings Yoshihiro Nishimura's name...

Director: Yoshihro Nishimura (TOKYO GORE POLICE)
Director: Yoshhihiro Nishimura (VAMPIRE GIRL VS FRANKENSTEIN GIRL)
Director: Yoshihiro Nishimura (HELLDRIVER )

Twitch on UK Helldriver:
SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Japanese Theatrical Cut,
- Director's Cut,
- The 'Making of' Featurette
- Tailer
and Maaku on US Helldriver
The US Blu-ray (and DVD) for HELLDRIVER comes out on November 22nd from WellGo USA, and will actually feature more special features than the UK edition, including three short spinoff films set within the HELLDRIVER universe!

Interesting. Might actually save me from purchasing the R2J...

The green case for the UK version is a bit strange!

I wonder what has happened to the UK release. Today is the release date, yet no UK retailer that I've checked has it in stock. No one even has the final artwork or technical specs listed. Also, there's still no mention of the longer cut on the BBFC site...

A couple of US BD reviews:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/51948/helldriver/
http://10kbullets.com/reviews/h/helldri ... dvd-combo/

I still wonder what the hell happened to the UK release... no store seems to have it in stock, no site has reviewed it, BBFC hasn't heard of it (the longer cut)....no concrete proof it has ever been released... yet no one is talking about it, no site has explanation or postpone message, nothing :?

It looks like the R2J may be the same length as the R1 disk. There is a 10 second shortfall but I suspect that is logos or warnings. The rental edition I have doesn't have any extras. They are on the 2nd disk which doesn't come with the rental disk.

Ok, I watched the film for the second time in three days, this time with the attitude that I won't bitch about the CGI, plus I cut my watching distance to from three metres two metres just to make the action a bit more hectic... and I enjoyed the hell out of the film. Nishimura's the fucking man, and this film is the Lawrence of Arabia on mental insanity. And where's the original soundtrack? Nakagawa rocks like motherfucker!

(whoa, I wish I could adjust myself to this mode every time I watch a film - as opposed to the usual nihilist me that gave and will give this film a 3.5/5 rating - but right now, I'm breathless).

marukomu, what did you think of the film?

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet as I've been teaching all day. I doubt the wife will let me watch it during prime time so it will probably be tomorrow when she's at work. After your review, I'm looking forward to it.

"One of the things I’ve learned reviewing for BHM is that a viewer should never say they’ve seen it all until they’ve watched a Yoshihiro Nishimura movie. Once they have, they shouldn’t say it again until they’ve watched his NEXT one."
