Night of the Creeps (1986-USA) **

Horror-comedy. A bit of a mess... but if you like Zombie-type movies you could do worse. Gets an extra half star for Tom Atkins.

The River Murders (2011-USA) **½

Absorbing serial killer thriller... though plot is very convoluted.

I stopped adding comments to my ratings for a while because I wasn't sure if anyone was reading/interested in them. Maybe we should post backup comments (I agree/disagree with your rating, etc...) so reviewers know they're not wasting their time.

If they're short I always read them. If they're long, it depends on the film.

Some of the films Gas and Hung watch I haven't seen though.

Plenty of the films Hung watches I've never heard of and have no interest in, too exploitation for my liking .

Well I use Mubi to rate and discover films, depends what you want to do, I like it yeah.

I don't see the point just giving a mark, it tells you absolutely nothing of value. I'd at least write a sentence or two. For the most part, I cannot be bothered. Do you recommend Mubi Gas? I've been meaning to ask.

Better than I thought it would be, the film has some funny gags and Eddie Murphy is surprisingly good and funny, seemingly channelling his character from Beverly Hills Cop as a thief/hustler

I need to see more (Aki) Kaurismäki to make my mind of him. Hate The Matchfactory Girl, somewhat dislike Lights in the Dusk, and absolutely love I Hired a Contract Killer.

His bro Mika makes more commercial films. I quite like Helsinki Napoli All Night Long, and especially Rosso.

Such a great scene in Rosso... a Sicilian hitman (played hugely convincingly by a Finnish actor) and a Finnish drifter, with no common language, discover a song they both know... the same melody, but different lyrics in Italian and Finnish:

Alien 3 (1992) (Workprint) - 3/5

Finally got round to watching this version and I agree that it improves upon the theatrical. The theatrical just felt like a waste of time to me, but this version feels like a proper film. I was surprised that the alien didn't burst out of her chest at the end though, that was like the most memorable part of the theatrical cut.

Like Indy 4, it was sillier than it should have been, and the fact that it didn't even end (just set up the sequel) is rather cheeky in my opinion. Its sequence of locations was strangely similar to Uncharted 3.

No idea, I know the British title is Secret of the Unicorn though so must be to do with that. I can't remember Tin Tin stories to be honest, I read some in a library when I was younger and saw some of the cartoons but was never that big on it, did like it though.

Teenage girl goes to a small Washington town to live with her father, joins a new school, and gets mixed up with a vampire.

After all the emo-hype this series has gotten these last few years, I kinda went into it with a few hesitations, but I felt it was an entertaining movie, but which certainly has it's flaws and is too sappy at times for it's own good.

I liked most of how the movie was filmed, especially the setting, the clothing and make-up, etc etc. It doesn't have that perked up fake Hollywood style you often get with these teen-movies, plus the acting was usually down-to-earth.

The special effects and fights were quite poor though, and it could have used a little less blue filter at times.

Make no mistake, this is romantic fantasy/'horror' aimed at a teenage girl audience. However, for the most part it didn't feel 'dumbed' down. Not every thought had to be spoken out loud. Not everything had to be explained, and they kept away from the usual teenage highschool drama by just having the supporting cast be supportive, instead of confronting with extra drama and such. No bitchfights. No jealous girlfriends. Not the usual jocks vs geeks bullshit. What a relief.

Highlight of the movie, for me, was Kirsten Stewart. Such a naturally gifted young actress who was great throughout the movie, and even pulled off the sappy scenes and at times crappy dialogue, without a hitch.

Sadly, the same can't be said about Robert Pattinson, who plays the teenage vampire heartthrob. Not sure if it was his acting that fell short, or a script which had him stuck in a lame role to wetten young girls' panties, but his character is written for 13 year olds. He's bland, predictable, and a poor mix between a James Dean impersonator, and Angel from Buffy. The scenes where he's moping around about being friends or not are just stupid, the scene where he comes out of the closet as a vampire, are pathetic, accompanied with extremely lame effects and stupid poses and pouts and stares.

That sad, it doesn't ruin the movie completely, and I applaud the movie for not going for the usual cheap thrills and shock-effects by offing castmembers for the sake of 'suspense'. Kirsten Stewart makes it worth watching. The guy playing her dad is very good as well.
