Sin City 5/5
3rd viewing and still love this film to pieces...script for Sin City 2 is apparently nearly done...based on one existing story and 2 new from Miller.
Re: Star Trek. Caught a bit of this on TV earlier, still comes across as very 'forced' transparent/predictable writing...totally over engineered stuff that completely takes to enjoyment out of the film. Casting was alright though...acting was so so..

You Kill Me - 3.5/5
Ben Kingsley is really funny in this one. Has anybody here seen this film? It's about a Polish contract killer who is sent to therapy, because he is an alcoholic.

Yeah, it was OK, I think. Saw it a year or so ago, but don't really recall what I thought exactly.thelostdragon wrote:You Kill Me - 3.5/5

I disliked the Spock, Uhura romance. Completely made up for the movie. It's supposed to be a prequel to the TV series! The fact "technically speaking" they re-wrote history and wiped out the entire Trek universe is also a little iffy too.

It's not a prequel in terms of continuity, it's an alternate timeline!

True but the characters are from the original prequel time line. So they still shouldn't fall for each other.. The alternate time line is a consequence of events in the movie.

The original "prequel" timeline doesn't exist for most of the characters. The original line was altered on the day Kirk was born, Spock was obviously alive at the time but the others either weren't or were young enough that you could say that their entire lives have been "altered" over a significant enough time for alternate romances to have blossomed.bradavon wrote:True but the characters are from the original prequel time line. Fast Five. 3.5 / 5
Not a great fan of the Fast and Furious films but this was good fun. Should be rated T for testosterone!
Dwain Johnson is really pumped up in this and there is some great action set pieces without too much reliance on CGI.

Re Suspiria
I don't think the dubbing is too much at fault, so much as the actors sound dislocated from each other in terms of conversation - probably intentional. Argento did have a tin ear for dialogue at times, and there doesn't seem to be much actual interaction between Jessica Harper and the female dubbers - it is possible they recorded their lines on seperate days. Some of the ballet girls seem to be dubbed by much older women.
Now...Italian horror films traditionally had all the actors lip-sync in English. Sometimes, the English actors would dub their own dialogue, sometimes not.
The worst case is the 1996 film THE STENDHAL SYNDOME. It was shot and recorded entirely in English, but then everyone was dubbed over by the most bored lot of actors I've ever heard. Watching it in Italian sounds better, but the lip sync is off quite a lot.
Another example: THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY. English actress Catherine Maccoll dubs herself, the rest of the cast seems to be speaking English and is dubbed OK BUT....that little kid, voiced by a grown woman, is so irritating!
SO...
Mark's facts are correct.
But there is a valid argument for prefferring to watch these in Italian too.

Source Code 8/10
I was bracing myself for disappointment with this one as I'd heard mixed feedback on the film. While not as lovingly crafted as Moon (one of my favourite films of recent years), I was totally engrossed in the mystery and storytelling. Jake Gyllenhaal was excellent as the lead and both females were good too (Vera Farmiga especially). The film itself was reminiscent of a Outer Limits type story, but actually reminded me a lot of how well Stranger Than Fiction works as a 'one off' story idea. Good sci-fi drama...something thats increasingly rare. Very engrossing and competently made film.

I enjoyed Source Code
The story seemed a bit like 12 Monkeys.
