Would it seriously be 'bizarre'!? It's more rare for an asian movie to get released UNCUT then it is to be butchered.
Yeah, I've lost count of the asian films I've ignored on UKBD because the fucking Asian studios only send out the "International Edit" to western distributors (who obviously don't give a fuck enough to send them back).
Same here, as I mentioned in the Ip Man debate in the bargains-section.

It's just so fucking annoying when you come across an asian movie in the store that looks and sounds interesting, and you can't pick it up spontaniously cause there's that fear (often justified) that you'd be picking up a cut/butchered/incomplete movie.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

surely it's more of a hassle to cut 10 minutes than just leave it untouched? i imagine it'll go straight to dvd virtually everywhere outside Asia so why not just release a port of the hk release? bonkers

I'd really like to know what scenes are actually missing.

Unless the HK companies deliberatly only offer the shorter cut, so as ensure their discs get sales? Unlikely.

I'd really like to know if it's been cut first. Fans get in a right tiz before things are even confirmed.

It has been confirmed! Saltysam has reported the DVD released in HK runs for 129min. The UK is 114min, more or less.

What if the HK DVD/BD is an extended cut though? I'm not saying it is given the track record of shorter international edits, but there is that slight possiblity i guess.

In Hong Kong extended cuts are usually marketed as such.

It hasn't been confirmed by anyone, as i said you cant compare running times because one is NTSC and one is PAL. Until someone has seen both versions then we dont know. I have seen the HK version and i cant see what they would cut out. I have a contact at Cine Asia and will try to find out from them.

Of course you can. The possible PAL speed up counts for 4%, which would be about 5 minutes. But the UK dvd is missing 15 minutes, assuming the stated running times are accurate.

If you relied on running times printed on packaging to see if things were cut then you wouldnt buy anything!

I do wish Cine Asia actually responded to consumer complaints. HKL rarely did...I think the closest they ever got was when they have a replacement offer for Big Boss covers!

Just to keep drees5761's brain from exploding trying to comprehend the NTSC/PAL runtime difference, I can confirm the UK BD runs 116m:32s at 24fps.
