lol, this will be a completely useless post for you, but I just came round to connect my PSP to the internet and this post was created with it from outside the house. To be exact, I'm in my Garden.
I'm on 2.5 as well. You know what's really terrible, though? OK, the LactionFree Player enables you to watch your local TV station anywhere in the world, but the StationBase is first of all only available in the USA and Japan at the moment and reportedly costs 350 US$, which is more than the PSP itself. So thanks, but no thanks. Maybe when this station costs 20 or 30 €, I'll get it.
Well, the thing that annoys me with the 2.x firmware is that you can't run home made software of ANY kind. And there are a lot of great homemade software out there. And let's face it - you can't really fight piracy if you want your customer be receive what he paid for... :-/ There are now modchips coming for this thing that will allow you switch between firmwares - so Sony can patch all they want... What the PSP really needs is a real magazine with a UMD with tons of demos (let's say first levels or so) of all the new games. I bet for many that would lessen the need for piracy as they actually CAN try out the games for real and see if they would continue playing.
If the Location Free worked as a TiVo/MythTV box (i.e. it could record hours of TV aswell as sharing out your xvid collection (probably recoded)) it could justify that cost. Right now it's just a gimmick - unless you are addicted to tv-shop.
