I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

I sold my copy of Police Story 2 a while back because it was cropped and only had a 5.1 remix.
In retrospect it's probably the best version we'll ever see on disc. I might need to rebuy it.

I happily sold the crummy HKL discs (had a bit of a dilemma with OUTLAW BROTHERS, as its censored but that's not HKL's fault). No point spending money on rubbish.

The cover for POLICE STORY uses a still from, I believe, THE PROTECTOR.
The cover for POLICE STORY 2 uses a screengrab from POLICE STORY!

Why you're right! PS2's cover art is definitely from Police Story.

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
Thanks for the info, the DVDs at least can be ignored. Bring on the BDs! I'd be interested in some of the HK ones (like the Bruce Lee's), if they weren't so expensive.
What do you expect them to call it? That's what it's always been called in The UK. It's better than The Protector.Yi-Long wrote:Wow, they even called it Warrior King? So lame...

I expect them to just cal it Tom Yum Goong.bradavon wrote:What do you expect them to call it? That's what it's always been called in The UK. It's better than The Protector.Yi-Long wrote:Wow, they even called it Warrior King? So lame...

I know you do but think about it, it's already been released under one name. They're simply not going to suddenly release it under another. They don't just release these films for people who know what they are, you know.Yi-Long wrote:I expect them to just cal it Tom Yum Goong.
I don't give a shit what they call it. The UK DVD is excellent and untampered with too. Isn't it the best English friendly version available?

The UK version is great! Despite the title change, which personally I couldn't care less about. Heck, even if they had changed it to "Shit King" I would have bought it.

The cine-asia Warrior King BD is falsely adverising a new Bey Logan commentary on it apparently.

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
Oh, as long as the movie is the way it should be (uncut, original soundtracks and voices and such), it's not a big concern for me either...thelostdragon wrote:The UK version is great! ... but I just find it unnecessary in most cases to change the name. It's not a big issue, but I just don't see the need to change it in the first place. Also, in some cases it makes it hard to find more info on a movie, like some of the movies on the amazia label which received a new title and it was unclear in some cases to me which movies it actually were...

I think we can assume Blu-Ray is out for now unless a new film or a DD port.
Give them time...it seems like their intentions are very admirable.

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
@ Yi: The answer should be obvious. You reckon a title like Tom Yum Goong is going to help it sell to the British person who has never heard of the film or doesn't have background experience in the genre? "You" may find it unnecessary but like I said, they're not just selling to "you".
@ Lost Dragon: Thanks. That article is bloody long. I cannot see anything mentioned about Bruce Lee releases. If the HKL DVDs are all just going to be re-releases, I'm not especially interested.
So the guys behind HKL, sold HKL and now are buying back their own material
. You'd think Entertainment One would just re-release them. Odd.
We don’t have anything to do with build or quality, all we do is get it through the BBFC. It’ll be the same for Hong Kong Legends too." - There's the answer. They'll definitely just be re-releases

@ Brad
No it says they improve subtitles on new releases and compile exclusive extras too.
Their Ip Man release sold 140,000 copies so the market is strong for high profile releases.
It's the Video savvy entrepreneurial founder of HKL who started Cine-Asia, the genre expert who came from Eastern Heroes has gone to the Weinsteins..

Bit late for a BD of Tai Chi Master.
I already bought the piss poor Dragon Dynasty release and I'm sure this will be identical.
Not touching that cut version of Fong Sai Yuk or The Legend or whatever the fuck they're calling it now...

Someone at HKL is video savvy? Considering the number of cropped and distorted titles they brought out...luckystars wrote:@ Brad

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
It's not the lack of new extras or alternate footage that bothers me - I never expected that - but the fact that they're not taking the perfect opportunity to fix past mistakes. I mean does ANYONE still want a pinkified Fist of Fury or a cropped Police Story 2?
