Favorite trailers and marketing campaigns

1. Love & Pop

The most genius ad campaign I've come across. Anno's masterpiece is an almost claustrophobic city film set entirely in central Tokyo. The marketing campaign with TV spots and music video released prior to the film, however shows the girls travelling to sunny beaches outside Tokyo. These events are discussed and planned in the film as future event: they take place after the end of the film. So here Anno isn't just advertising his film, he extends the film's storyline beyond the film itself. Furthermore, the almost idol-type cm footage is in stark contrast with the film's style, which is great considering the film's theme. Just brilliant.

2. The End of Evangelion

Interestingly, my second favorite ad also belongs to an Anno film. This anime film was originally supposed to have the final scenes shot in live action, depicting the characters in a real world where they are ordinary people, battle mechas don't exists, and Shinji (the main character) also doesn't exist. The footage is fantastic and would have made an amazing ending, but for one reason or another it wasn't used in the film. Instead, it was used in the trailer, making possibly the coolest trailer ever.

I have always liked the Halo 3 E3 announcement trailer. It has a nice you against the world feel. The music is also epic.

ah, Halo, なつかしい。。。 I remember the good old days when I'd drag my X-Box to a friends place, and we'd have two consoles and two TV's in different rooms and then play capture the flag 4 vs. 4 (actually, once we managed to get three consoles and 12 players, but that was a bit too much). The first game was great, the second I didn't care for enough to finish it. And I didn't even know there was a third one.

3. Late Bloomer

Nothing exceptional about this trailer other than that it happens to be one of the most stylish trailers I've ever seen. Original soundtrack by World's End Girlfriend.

Director Go Shibata later did an amazing music video for another one of my new favorite bands, Arakajime kimerareta koibitotachi e. The vid is a sort of variation of the final scene in Late Bloomer:

4. Tenebre

This Japanese trailer is beyond cool. "We'll feast with your heart!"

Love this fan made trailer for the next UFC heavyweight title match. Two of the baddest men on the planet in the same cage and their can be only one winner. Dunno which one I prefer to win, I like both fighters.

The Four Flies on Grey Velvet trailer is amazing.

Always wanted to see Halloween III (and II). Need pick up used copies from amazon some day...

Here's a very nice trailer for my favorite Johnnie To film, Throwdown. Love the use of "subtitles".

The teaser for Exiled is also nice:

I love Halloween III, make sure you get the R1 Universal version. I personally find Halloween II to be a bit overrated, I only see parts 1 & 3 worth owning.

Back when MTV (Music television) was cool they had this funny The Jukka Brothers ad campaign. Besides being an accurate representation of life in Finland the ads funny and contained a really good message: "Be cool with MTV". I'll post the clips and small translations for the limited Finnish dialog.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYUR2B5e ... re=related
Songs in this one: The Offspring - Pretty Fly (For A White Guy); TLC - No Scrubs; Beck - Loser (this one is in all of them)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USoent6MocY
Songs: Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmVJCJg- ... re=related
Songs: Fatboy Slim - Funk Soul Brother
Accurate translation: Hei jätkät ylös = Hey dudes, Get up.
Seksikästä ja viileetä tanssia = Dance sexy and cool
Hei lopettakaa = Hey, stop.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asvPfvMvR9U
Songs: Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop
Accurate translation: Jukka Perkele = Perkele is a common curse word in Finnish
Mitä me voitais tänne laittaa? = What could we put here?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERDQgSvhcvA
Songs: That TLC song again.
Accurate translation: Mä tiedän mikä on viileetä = I know what's cool.
Katso enemmän MTV:tä = Watch more MTV

Overrated, really? I thought most critics hated it. I think it's a decent enough sequel myself, raised up a couple of notches by Dean Cundey's series-best cinematography.

By Halloween fans then I guess, I always see people recommending it but I find it a bit pointless and the director is lame.

5. Real onigokko 2

Fun DVD/BD spot for Real onigokko 2. But first you need to know something about the film. It takes place in parallel universe, where the government has ordered all people named Sato to be captured or executed. The proragonist, Sato, hence has no option but to run like hell when masked killers sent by the government hunt Satos on the streets. To give you better idea here are the teaser and trailer:
