This surfaced recently, it's a short film showcasing one director's vision for a reboot of MK to Warner Brothers. Starring Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion.
This is for the movie, and it comes from the mind of genius fight choreographer Larnell Stovall. He's the guy who did the fights for the excellent Undisputed 3: Redemption, on DVD and Blu-Ray right now. I hope that this movie gets made with Larnell plotting the punches, because this guy isn't just a geek like us, he's also got an incredible skill and ambition to create the next generation of fight choreography.
It wouldn't be hard at all to better the Paul WS Anderson original film, that movie was such a massive pile of shit.
So Scorpion is an anti-hero now? Blah, talk about old hat from the 1990's. Fitting I suppose, since so is MK. The videogame medium has matured significantly since MK's heyday, selling a game on gore alone doesn't work anywhere near as well as it did in the '90's
This looks interesting. The 7 min video, while not superb, is certainly promising. Dark visual style, R-rated violence, no overly fast editing in the fight scene... Just imagine the final movie with island / castle setting, even more grotesque fighters, and Mortal Kombat's famous ultra violence, done in same fashion... that could be a very nice film.
I'd love a new MK game. The playability is fantastic. It pisses me right off Mortal Kombat 3 PC edition isn't Windows 64-Bit compatible. My PC's graphics card is nowhere near powerful enough for Street Fighter 4 and I much prefer MK anyway.
As to the film, I imagine it will be tosh. There's nothing "there" to make a MK film out of.

What are you talking about? There's bucketloads of potential for gothic horror martial arts film. Kinda like Story of Ricky set in the Dracula's Castle on an island filled with grotesque monster fighters and done in very dark, half-serious and gory fashion. This would be as much a mood piece as it would be a martial arts film. Anderson's movie already had some good elements in it...

Undisputed 3? Do they mean THE Undisputed 3? My god the man must be a fucking genius of epic proportions to have worked on such a venerated classic! He might be better than Lau Kar-Leung, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Wo-Ping combined!
Oh and that 7-min clip is fucking atrocious, looks like every other DTV shit that the likes of Seagal, Van Damme, and Jai White churn out twice a week. Dark tone? try already monumentally clichéd "gritty" style and cheap use of gore. Go watch Maboroshi and After Life again and change your ratings before hyping up shit like this Hung!

And I'm sorry, I haven't seen the recent DTV films of Seagal, Van Damme, and Jai White. Which ones did you think were the worst of those for each actor?

Urban Justice is hilariously bad, basically Steven Seagal sitting in the corner of dark rooms mumbling "I just want the motherfuckers who killed my son" for 90mins. One of Jai White's latest - Blood and Bone is pretty awful as well despite the obvious talent of some of the scfreenfighters, his approach to acting seems to be to lower his chin, look through the top of his eyes and talk slowly through his teeth whilst scowling!
Seems that Warner rejected the idea of a film, but did give the director the greenlight to make a web series prequel to the game fiction. Mortal Kombat: Legacy is done the same style as the proof of concept short-film, but it still retains the mystical elements of the established MK universe.

5 episodes have been released thus far. Warning: Zack Snyder style action direction.
Each episode deals with the origins of different characters. IMO, the best thus far is probably Kitana/Mileena 2-parter, stylistically it's a lot like O-Ren Ishii's origin tale from Kill Bill Vol. 1. The Johnny Cage one is pretty well done too.
Total and utter shit them 5 episodes so far! they get worse with every turd part. No fucking wonder they wont let that hack make a film. Garbage.
The Kitana/Mileena episode is beyond shit, its fucking worthless beyond words.
