Band Aid 20 - what do you think?
I know its' a charity record and all but this is no match for the version recorded in 1984. it seemed too overproduced IMO!
There are too many instruments layered up together here, (including a stupid off-beat piano backing) and in comparison with the 80's version the stars singing today have very weak, quiet voices which get "lost" in the accompniment (sp?) None of them, (even Bono) can match any of the earlier stars.
They lack power and feeling IMO. And as for the silly Streets rap..WTF???
The bells and strings used in 1984's version complimented the song rather than detracting from it.
Even though the opening lines of the 80's version ("Its Xmas time, theres no need to be afraid.." etc) were quite soft, you felt they had power and "oomph" - listening to them this time round they may as well have been whispered.

Huh? That's not the video I've seen.
The one I've seen is very similar to the original.
It's a pity Katie Melua (isn't she the only non-Brit?) wasn't given a chance to sing a solo.

It seemed very similar to the original as well to me Brad, but not very well done (if that makes sense). On the other hand, I think the original was done entirely for free, it was made very quickly with no shooting fees, no artist fees, no producer fees etc, and all the money went to Band Aid (I think
)
I prefer the original as that at least had power. Theres a documentary on tonight about it on BBC2.

You didnt watch it then, as the fool from the Darkness playing the guitar thrusts his cock at the screen a few times! and they all joke about laffing, then show dying kids! nice! [/quote]
That's no difference to the original.
They joke about lauging in that or do you mean some kind of out-takes?
I certainly saw no kids dying, it must have been a censored version. I've not seen it but to be honest laughter and joy in a time of despair is a good thing IMO.
I don't want people being all somber at my funeral for example.
The fact is we live in an unfair world. I agree it's not fair that artists like this (who have stacks of cash) can easily sing a song but this is the way of the world!

I saw this video last night and tbh Romero old mucker I'm not sure what you're babbling about.
It didn't look tasteless at all, the section where they laugh is a completely separate part of the video. If you recall they where smiling etc . . . in the original. The whole point is to get people shocked and to make them buy the song. The song is in aid of the people starving in Africa I see no point skirting around the subject just to not make people feel upset.
p.s - The one shown on "The Hits and TMF" is cut.
