Cheers Salty, I'm pleased to see it doesn't have the ridiculous turquoise tint that the extended Taiwanese cut has. So is this the uncut HK version then? If it is and has English subs I think I'll go for it tbh.

Haven't watched it yet but yeah it's the uncut HK version according to numerous reports.as the usa BD is a waste of time this is probably by default the best option.there's little detail in the image, hopefully in motion it'll look better

Yeah I'll just be happy to have the uncut HK version in Cantonese, it's always been one of those films that never has an ideal release, I'm gonna go for it :D

£14.94, and that's before postage. I'll go with eBay (£13.99 + £1 postage, from the UK).

Yeah I've never owned it, I once caught it on TV one night about a decade ago and thought it was well cool (one of the first HK films I'd ever seen), and went to Virgin to buy it but they didn't have it. Then fairly recently I decided to download the Taiwanese cut, but was annoyed by its stupid tint and the fact it's dubbed into Mandarin (I think). So finally I will be getting the proper film!

Post up how the subs are, and if they're a readable size too!

This is a real shock....looks to good to be true! Is the audio all new foley or just a classic style remix? ;)

Didnt notice any new foleys at all. It sounds exactly as it should. Same goes for My Father is a Hero and Hitman.

Black Mask was 5.1 originally so no need to remix it.

Upscale, it appears.

Think Sony BMG still have the rights, but I would like a re-release. Were Distant Horizon responsible for international distribution?

Just having a look at it and I'm happy with this presentation, I personally don't think it's just a DVD upscale, it's just got a typical HK film stock look to it, and to be honest I own plenty of Blu-rays with a softer look than this. Fans of the film should definitely go for this version.

OK, I've just watched the whole thing and I do have a gripe: the music is too low in the mix. But otherwise I enjoyed that, was great to finally see the proper version of the film, and the PQ is actually quite good for it I think. Did the director never make a film in that style again?

Also, in the Mandarin track when Francoise Yip gets jabbed in the leg with anaethetic, she yells/screams, but in the Cantonese track she does a funny laugh :D Anyone know what she does in the English version?
