You got that right but I cannot imagine it will be the film of the year like Dawn of the Dead, 300 or Watchmen were. I live in hope

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
I've been to the cinema once this year.
Actually, we only went to the lobby, looked at the posters, and decided we would go bowling instead.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

Another response from the Cine Asia rep.
"This is sometimes the exact problem, some of the prints have just been left unattended in a store room and seriously degrade (and get tons of mold!).
Our stance on Blu Ray in general is that if the quality isn't good enough, we would rather not put it out as a Blu Ray at all. "
i don't think these films are coming to BD,not from Cine Asia anyway.

Fair enough, but thats what restoration/remastering is for, no? Of course it is nice to have the best quality possible though.saltysam wrote:Another response from the Cine Asia rep.

I wonder who'd put them on BD?

I hope so too that you're wrong about Cine Asia
Would they have to be restored from the ground up? K&R have done them anyway (supposedly WOTD looks worst).

Their stance on Blu Ray in general? So what was their reason for not releasing "Connected" on Blu Ray? That's a new movie for God's sake.saltysam wrote:Our stance on Blu Ray in general is that if the quality isn't good enough, we would rather not put it out as a Blu Ray at all. "

That is fighting talk, when it comes to Asian films and Asian film fans.saltysam wrote:Our stance on Blu Ray in general is that if the quality isn't good enough, we would rather not put it out as a Blu Ray at all."
Which films? Thanks for the continued copy/pastes btw.saltysam wrote:i don't think these films are coming to BD,not from Cine Asia anyway.
Bruce, Jackie, Jet etc... are the exceptions rather than the rule. Martial Arts films are a large but still niche market. HKL used to remaster but they still effectively went bust in the end.saltysam wrote:imagine if they restored Bruce's movies, original audio etc, proper HD and made them region-free.they'd coin it in.

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
i agree...just got curious to see how many films i actually get through in a year.though i've watched more than usual so far,due to there not being much overtime in work atm.bradavon wrote:Geeksaltysam wrote:i've been keeping a spreadsheet of movies i've watched this year.![]()

the HKL ones.bradavon wrote:Which films? Thanks for the continued copy/pastes btw.
the profits they'd make on the Jackie/Bruce/Jet movies could theoretically let them release lesser titles.i mean they are releasing stuff like Confucious to BD,it's down to less than £7 not long after release, they must have known a title like that wouldn't sell particularly well yet they still released it.bradavon wrote:Bruce, Jackie, Jet etc... are the exceptions rather than the rule. I bought "The Prodigal Son" yesterday. It is quite literally the exact same HKL disc with the Cine Asia logo slapped on it. Disappointing.

Of course it is. It wouldn't be an HKL re-release if wasn't the same release, would it?Keung wrote:I bought "The Prodigal Son" yesterday. It is quite literally the exact same HKL disc with the Cine Asia logo slapped on it. Disappointing.
Why didn't you get the cheaper and far superior German disc?

Yeah, but you'd think after almost ten years they'd at least attempt to make it better somehow. The artwork is worse than the original, too. The back cover looks like it was put together by a 3 year old with a UHU Stic.

i was looking at Fist Of Fury in hmv earlier. "brand new commentary" by Bey Logan? isn't that false advertising as the commentary (assuming it's the one off the hkl) must be five years old now.

Unless he's recorded a 3rd one, I agree it is false advertising.
We should wait and see if a UK label releases the Bruce Lee movies on BD.

The artwork for every re-release is piss poor. The front cover of Warrior King has a picture of Tony from Ong Bak, Police Story 2 has a picture of Jackie from PS1 with a random gun photoshopped in his hand.

HKL's Police Story cover was just really bad - with a picture of Jackie from some old school film cover (Snake and Crane maybe?) slapped on it.

Check out these monstrosities. They're a bit big, sorry.grim_tales wrote:HKL's Police Story cover was just really bad - with a picture of Jackie from some old school film cover (Snake and Crane maybe?) slapped on it.

Is that even Jackie's hand?
