Some of the old HKL films have references to Japan. "Legend of a Fighter", "Duel to the Death", "Ninja in the Dragon's Den" or "Hong Kong 1941" come in mind. Or how about their three manga titles "City Hunter", "Story of Ricky" and "Dragon from Russia"? I'd get all of these films on Bluray right away.HungFist wrote:Hung dies of boredom

I own almost all of those titles on dvd. I just don't get you guys. Year after year you just jerk off over the same films. Buy your 17th edition of Terminator 2.... The world is full of interesting films you've never seen. Why waste all your time on films you own and have seen already??thelostdragon wrote:Some of the old HKL films have references to Japan. Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
Interesting question really. I have so many DVDs that I haven't watched, yet and still this weekend I decided to watch, Full Contact, City Hunter and The Young Master.
There are so many international dishes and yet I keep eating Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indian and Mexican. There is so much more out there to try, but somehow I won't.
I'm not saying that I don't watch films that I haven't seen before, but I definitely don't mind spending money to upgrade a film I love.

I think it's because sometimes we're in the mood to watch the movie we already know we'll enjoy, instead of watching a new movie and making the effort and investment in watching it for the first time...
... when you watch a new movie, you need to keep focussed and pay attention and hopefully it will be a great movie and you'll enjoy it.... but when I just want 2 hours to kill with a movie that I already know I'll enjoy, I'll just throw in one of my favourites.
I'm not really into double dipping at the moment though, although I did buy the excellent Battle Royale on BR...

Yeah, of course we all have favorite films that we like to re-watch, and own as the best possible editions. I do that too. But with some people I feel like they're not doing anything else than buying the same films again and again... Looking at the last 20 movies I've bought, 17 of them I have never seen before.
Seeing Yi's post, I do feel we have quite different views on this topic. I want to gain more knowledge, see movies I've never seen before, even if they turned out bad. Watching movies almost no one has seen before and no one has reviewed on the net... having no idea what you're going into, and then finding amazing gems and learning about films and cultures and history... that's what I feel movies are all about.

I agree that's what movies are about, and obviously everyone loves discovering a new gem and being surprised by new actors, movies, etc etc...HungFist wrote:Yeah, of course we all have favorite films that we like to re-watch, and own as the best possible editions. ... but for many, they don't take the time to watch that many movies every week, because they're too busy, or can't get enough alone time, or whatever... so they'll just stick to a safe choice instead...
Not that there's anything wrong with it. Like LD said, we also do it with food, or with games, or music. Hell, for some going on vacation is a new discovery each time, while others just choose 1 destination they love, and go back there often.

Don't get Hung's issue here.If the topic bores him,or he has no wish to upgrade to possible future Blu-rays of these titles then he has no need to visit the thread.each to their own.i have no interest in most of his various japanese movie threads so i don't visit them..it's not hard

You indeed don't get me here. My post was
a) A joking reply to the two previous post both saying they're getting exicited
and
b) An attempt to raise some discussion. This is a discussion board after all.

Cine Asia rep's reply to the blu-ray question...
"Seriously though, we've actually been having meetings about HKL today and most of the week. There's a lot to get finalised, so it's a little early to be able to give much solid information on how we're going to realise the films. I know how you all feel, when I first learned of HKL, it was my instinctual reaction to want to tell everyone - it makes me pretty excited too!
As I said, I hope to be able to give you all more information soon and answer more questions regarding the Hong Kong Legends releases."

I frequently watch movies I haven't seen before whilst revisiting favourites on Blu Ray... Why shouldn't I do both?

Not yet. The Blu-Ray isn't out until next month.saltysam wrote:you delivered a sermon about people here being stupid wanting to upgrade previously owned titles. While you were posting your sermon you probably had another tab open purchasing your sixth different version of Tokyo Gore PoliceHungFist wrote:You indeed don't get me here. Seriously though, I'm always amazed by how many people think discussions shouldn't be allowed on discussion boards, and even the most obvious and harmless provocation gets taken as "sermon". Yet, we did manage to have some discussion with Yi and LD, so it does work sometimes and bring some life to a half dead forum.
Speaking of spreadsheets, this year I've seen 49 movies, of which 9 had seen before. The amount is higher than usual, though, as recently I started having a (more or less) weekly movie night with a friend, showing him good films only (Alien vs. Ninja, Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl, and Fudoh so far).

Re: Breaking News! Cine-Asia is reviving Hong Kong Legends
You've made a lot of good points but I'll just respond of this one
You see it time and time again in forums people all making a list of statements, each one drowning out the previous persons one, and it never amounts to any kind of real discussion.
It takes a serious topic, say like the recent diaster in Japan to remind you how pathetic most people have become in their online habits, and that even when you voice something on a really delicate subject they aren't 'listening'. You aren't achieving anything, and no one will care if you made a good point or not!
This is the reason I mostly only dip into forums and I'm sort of the poor relation here on bullets
I get strong feeling more and more (and this isn't directed at bullets) that people on forums and online in general just want to vent and voice an opinion, and are caring less and less about any response.HungFist wrote: I'm always amazed by how many people think discussions shouldn't be allowed on discussion boards

In all honestly, some of those weren't really quality resurrectionssaltysam wrote:Hey,you've got me wrong,i'm all for bringing discussion to a quiet board,i know from experience it doesn't always work, look at the stick i get when i resurrect old threads at new yearHungFist wrote:

I'm more afraid of the police, than getting sensitive.saltysam wrote: you are getting too sensitive in your old age![]()
Although that's a strange comment as I'm almost 100% insensitive to anything on the web. The only exception is all thing kawaii, as that's a topic where rude behavior is just dumb, like badmouthing someone mom.
Hey, last year it went down to 4 movies a month a couple times when I was too busy fucking Japanese girlssaltysam wrote:i can't believe i've watched more movies than you this yearHungFist wrote:Speaking of spreadsheets, this year I've seen 49 movies, of which 9 had seen before. I don't know which situation you're referring to, so you're probably correct (actually, just looking at this board, I'm sure you're correct) but technically speaking, you don't need to start every reply "yes, that's true, but IMO..." just for it to count for good discussion (just mentioning, as I don't think you were referring to this at all). I often omit this because in a good conversation I take it for granted that the other person knows I have understood his point. A lot of times in conversations I don't even argue my personal views, but just take the opposing stand point. It's not trolling, it's discussing. The while point of discussion is to bring out the different views. There's no winner or correct answer...luckystars wrote: You see it time and time again in forums people all making a list of statements, each one drowning out the previous persons one, and it never amounts to any kind of real discussion.

Agreed. Specifically I'm talking bout..
I think xyz
You're a fag.
I think abc.
Listen to this guy.
fuck you typical.
Your momma etc etc.
Honestly people seem so unable to bond and talk normally they go on forums and end up having abnormal chat and getting caught up in the oneupmanship and bullying that goes on. People just bored and desperate to be heard.
The knock on is when you meet someone at party now they just want to tell you whats on their iPod

I've been to cinema this year, ehm, once. No, wait, Piranha was last year. Zero, that is
But I have 7 tickets for Saturday night cause there's finally some quality stuff on big screen. And next month I'll challenge Nippon Connection. Let's see how many movies those lame asses manage to screen per day!
