Re: More Argento Blu-Rays coming from Arrow...
It was easier during the dvd era when the "best possible" was pretty much the same for all films... now you don't really know how good something could look like. Then we've got a board full of idiots who bought a ridiculously large TV and are seeing additional problems in the already shitty looking image...

Arrow's Blu-ray has been added to the comparison of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/dvdrevie ... lu-ray.htm
Storaro is nuts. On the upside it has the Italian title credit.

Half-time score:
Blue Underground (3) Arrow (0)
Inferno... Deep Red... and now Crystal Plumage
It's a shame Arrow are putting in so much apparent effort only to be bested every time.

The upcoming Blue Underground Blu-ray of Cat O' Nine Tails appears to have the same problem as their Stendhal Syndrome BD, look at the weird noise in the image: http://www.rockshockpop.com/forums/cont ... Nine-Tails

More artifical grain goodness, if I was unsure if City of the Living Dead should look that way, I'm certain Tenebrae shouldn't!

Unfortunately there's no Blue Underground to compare it to.

Tenebre comparison @ DVD Beaver:
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare5/tenebre.htm
Arrow DVD misses original English mono. I presume their BD does likewise.
Will hang on to my Dutch DVD.

Right, the English track on the Tenebrae Blu-ray is not very good quality, there's lots of nasty distortion, particularly in the crane shot scene with the main theme tune. Thankfully the Italian track doesn't suffer this problem and sounds much better. Also in the English track there's a bit where Daria Nicolodi mouths something, but the dialogue doesn't come till a few seconds later!

Re: More Argento Blu-Rays coming from Arrow...
Is this the first official home video release outside Italy? I kinda remember there was an English friedly DVD release, but something was wrong with it... some leagal issues that made it less than "official" release, maybe. Or am I mistaken?

There's an American DVD but it has a sound pitch issue, everyone's voices are too deep or something. Plus it doesn't have subs for the Italian track.

My expectations for Argento are very low these days.
His work was always uneven, but at least had style and panache. Since the 80s that has been lost.

Re: More Argento Blu-Rays coming from Arrow...
Hang on! I've avoided buying the Arrow BD of Tenebrae because the only audio track available (in English) is downmixed stereo, yet according to this link http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Tenebrae-Blu-ray/12028/ the audio is LPCM mono(!)
Have I been misinformed?
I know the image has artifical grain, but the French BD has forced subs (stupid frogs!)
Is that racist?
I have the Dutch DVD (AFAIK the best DVD available) and need to compare it to the BD to see how much of an improvement there is. No point buying it if it looks the same (or worse).
The BD is currently £8.99 at Amazon BTW.

I'm gonna post a comp between the Arrow BD and caps taken from my Dutch DVD in the reviews thread.
Your opinion is welcome.
