Re: HUGE earthquake hits Japan...
Very disturbing live pictures all morning.
Just so much sad sad stuff going on. You see tiny little cars and bikes being caught up by that huge wave of water and debris. You see people just being stuck with no place to go and everything lost. You see cars in the water topling over and when you look close, you still see people inside, etc etc.
Just horrible stuff, and the deaths will easily be in the tens of thousands, probably even hundreds of thousands.

Google has this warning...
"Tsunami Alert for New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, and others. Waves expected over the next few hours, caused by 8.9 earthquake in Japan."

Re: HUGE earthquake hits Japan...
I have never stepped foot in Japan, But it is a country I have always admired all of my life. To see what just happened over there breaks my heart. I felt depressed throughout the day today at work. So I did the best thing that I think I could have done to help and that was donate to the Red Cross. My prayers and condolences go out to everyone in Japan so many people have lost either family or loved ones, I ask my self why do such horrific things happen to the innocent? But in this world that's just how things are so we all have to prepare to face the unknown.

Re: HUGE earthquake hits Japan...
I talked with a Tokyo based friend last night, and he said the biggest problem in Tokyo right now is that people are over-reacting, some bullshit sources are going batshit etc.
Quotes from British Embassy in Tokyo statements:
"In case of a 'reasonable worst case scenario' an exclusion zone of 30 km would be the maximum required to avoid affecting peoples' health"
"...experts do not see there being a possibility of a health problem for residents in Tokyo. The radiation levels would need to be hundreds of times higher than current to cause the possibility for health issues..."

Wow! One can't imagine the power of water if you haven't seen or experienced it in action.

Re: HUGE earthquake hits Japan...
Well, it's millions of liters of water, so you have an idea ofcourse, yet seeing the power of nature during these disasters in action is always amazing...
I expected many more deaths, but I'm really happy I was wrong, although obviously it's still a horrible amount of innocent lifes lost....
....but when you think of the size of the quake, the distance to the shore, and thus the resulting tsunami and the VERY short time between the alarms and the arrival of the wave, it's amazing that so many people still managed to bring themselfs to safety and survive.
