My Lucky Stars: R2UK HKL vs R2FR Seven Sept

Post by tom2681 »

Note: The HKL is cut in two places.
Note2: The R2FR has a lower bitrate because it contains two different cuts of the film. One is the original HK cut (92:53), the other is a shorter french cut (84:08 ).
Note3: You can choose either the original mono or a 5.1 remix from the menu on the Seven Sept. Whether the mono track is a downmix or not, I don't know yet.

Cut in two places? I know one is when we see how Sammo breaks into the car. What is the other cut, though?

If I recall correctly, it happens in the hotel room scene with Sibelle Hu.
One of the guys jokes about raping her, which is why she comes out of her room and kicks Sammo in the head.

On the HKL, the beginning of that scene is cut.
Sibelle just comes out and kicks Sammo for no apparent reason. :D

Jesus, it's like night and day. Did the Frenchies use the FS masters, or their own?

Both the short french cut and the original HK cut have the FS logo.
Which means that the FOX DVD should be pretty similar (but it's got horrible dubtitles).

Sure is better than that dark and fuzzy HKL transfer.

HKL still a solid release - despite the cuts you get good picture, audio and subs.

That Fortune Star print is horribly sharpened and contrast boosted to my eyes.

I know the HKL is a bit soft but the colours are much more natural looking :)
