Chinatown supermarket

Post by grim_tales »

Hey,

When I was in Manchester today I went round Chinatown and had a gander at the Chinese market. :D
Definitely an experience. :)

Yeah, unfortunately I didnt buy anything, it was a more old fashioned (?) Chinese store where everything was arranged randomly. I didnt know what most things were  There's a spiky fruit which is meant to smell very bad but tastes nice, not sure what its called.

Some of the younger girls were cute looking actually ;) That and the sing-song Mandarin voices reminded me of Lin and all those other Chinese girls I'd met or left behind

Can you use Yuan notes in Chinatown, as I saw several guys paying with Chinese notes in the store.

We don't have a Chinatown in Aberdeen as such, more like a Chinahouse. Well, Chinese supermarket to be precise. It's of a decent size and there's a resturant next to it.

In Glasgow, there's a Chinese centre comprising of shops, supermarkets and even a video store where you can hire R3's. There are a few individual massive Chinese supermarkets as well.

I like to go and buy dumplings, dimsum and imported noodles. :D

Also go to spy on talent. I watch them discretely. 8)

'spy on talent' .... you're a scout for the neighbourhood pimphouse now!? :D

Anyway, the big spiky fruits which smell bad but supposedly tastes good, is called Dooreyan or something... (I have no clue as to how to spell it :) ), but that's how my girl calls it... :)

Sometimes I buy noodles when I'm in Amsterdam, but usually I don't bother. There's nothing much special in the Dutch Chinatowns... just chinese food and overpriced VCD's and DVD's and shit.

It's not legal tender in this country, but I don't suppose there's anything to stop storeowners from accepting it for use back home. As long as the taxes are paid in sterling. :D

Didnt buy/see any DVDs, but I did see some Thai/Chinese magazines, I had a go to see if I could guess who the cover stars were, one looked like Tony Leung (?) or Steven Chow I think, and there were some girls I couldnt identify.

wait... how come you get cool chinatowns???? the birmingham one has luuuuurvelly restaurants but is essentially yet another 'quarter' thats been dominated with pubs and clubs (and is also often refferred to as the gay quater due to the amount of gay bars in the area..)... If we have a chinese market i am scertainly not aware of it...
