New Line has bought the remake rights to the controversial Japanese sci-fi pic "Battle Royale" reports Variety.
Original film, produced by Toie and released in 2000 amid concerns about its violence, is set in an apocalyptic future in which schools are overrun by uncontrolled violence.
The government responds by organizing an annual Battle Royale, in which a school class is picked at random and students are pitted against each other on an abandoned island in a game of survival.
Neal Moritz ("The Fast And The Furious") and Roy Lee ("The Ring", "The Grudge") will produce.
Kenta Fukasaku's Battle Royale 3D-J-Pop now has a trailer: http://www.br3d.jp/
If Arrows manages both original cuts in solid quality on BD, the humanity can consider itself saved. Kenta's cut will no doubt pollute the BD releases around the world from now on.
I'd definitely be up for seeing Battle Royale in 3D. Imagine the carnage! But there is zero chance of it being shown here. Multiplex cinemas won't touch it and independents don't have the hardware.
Are you going to see it Hung? Wait a second, so this is a new cut by Kenta Fukasaku? Are you sure it's not just the same cut but made in 3D? If so, I cannot see it harming the 2D versions existence.
It should be the same cut, with added GCI and 3D. But who knows.
Not seeing this. Buying the "originals" on BD instead.
The problem with the 3D version is that I may lead into a Lucas situation - future BD's only featuring the 3D version and no original version. We're lucky Arrow got their BD in production before the 3D version was completed.
That won't happen. If this was a Remastered 2D version sure but 3D is far to polarising to replace the 2D versions, especially when home uptake is very lacklustre at the moment.
Lucas is bringing Star Wars to 3D in 2012 (all of them). I doubt it will replace the 2D Special Editions though. They're still coming to BD remember.

Don't be stupid. You're the one who's seen all the 3D films and therefore making 3D more popular. I reckon Battle Royale could work well in 3D, in theory at least. So far I understand all 2D to 3D conversions have been awful though, so I'm expecting the same.
Obviously I'm getting the Arrow BD, without a doubt.
Sure, in the trailer there are some fun looking bits. But Battle Royale isn't exactly supposed to be a fun popcorn film.
Kenta Fukasaku's been showing promise recently. X-Cross was a fun horror roller coaster, and Maid for You is also cool (and retarded). If he wants to go 3D (actually he did already. Maid for You featured the dance and sex scenes in 3D) I have no objections, but do your own films and don't disgrace your father's work please.
About the 3D takeover, yeah, I maybe went a bit ahead of time. But there's still the risk that they will replace the old cuts with the Kenta edition since it has new CGI. Difficult to say without knowing exactly how much Kenta has enhanced the film.

There's probably a couple of members here trying figure out what kind of sexual metaphor is that?
oh, I digged the goth loli girl too. And the cult horror stuff. The problem was that these two elements didn't mix so well. Fukasaku should've done two films instead of one. Still, it was a fun film and proved Fukasaku can deliver a good movie when the scrip is good.

I thought Kenta Fukasaku was behind the original Extended Cut? It seems to be the new CGI is connected to the 3D version (there's no new 2D version too right?). So I'm not expecting any reason to worry, just yet.
Not fun popcorn no but it is definitely good fun. In an over the top, wry smile, Japanese way.
