I didn't know that. Cheers. It makes it confusing when they actually use 24fps.gasteropod wrote:Nope, it just makes sense to round it up to 24 when referring to it.

Yes, Cine Asia exclusively distribute DD product in the UK, but must have a certain autonomy over the final release. The UK Fist of Legend contains subtitles whereas the US BD (bizarrely) contains dubtitles. So there are differences even though Cine Asia get all their materials for those particular titles from DD (hence the blending issue).Shingster wrote:Cine-Asia are Dragon Dynasty as far as Blu-ray is concerned, as their distribution deal pretty much makes them the UK wing of the company.
Unlikely I would've thought that DD would prevent a CA BD for TCM but not the more popular FOL.Not sure why TCM was pulled, I assume it's down to either rights or DD deciding they wanted to release it first, so maybe it will eventually work its way over here.
(Love those acronyms)
As long as you're not just taking my word for it...When I've shifted them I'll return to FOL and amend The Digital Fix review.
Blu Ray on a CRT? Shorley shome mishtake?I would have thought at least one of the geeks over on AsianDVDGuide and whatnot are still watching on a CRT though!

Don't think there's a particularly sinister reason why Tai Chi Master didn't get a UK BD release, just think that Cine-Asia didn't think it'd be a popular title.Don't think FSY is getting a UK BD release either is it,DVD only?

Has someone actually properly confirmed that yet? I thought people were just going by what DVDBeaver said about the US release, but you can test parts of the film and find that the dub and subs match up.Markgway wrote:Yes, Cine Asia exclusively distribute DD product in the UK, but must have a certain autonomy over the final release. Well Gil obviously noticed it on the DVDs and I see chen lung spotted it in the Cine-Asia DVD as well, so it must be noticeable. As long as you're not just taking my word for it...
Nah I was talking about the DVD. If it's the exact same issue then it shouldn't be any more noticeable on DVD over the BD, if anything it should be less noticeable on DVD because of the lower resolution.Blu Ray on a CRT? Shorley shome mishtake?

Well the way you've got to look at it, it isn't costing them anything to port DD titles over beyond the production costs of the BD discs, so if they thought a TCM/FSY BD wasn't financially viable then it means they don't believe they would make back said production costs.saltysam wrote:Don't think there's a particularly sinister reason why Tai Chi Master didn't get a UK BD release, just think that Cine-Asia didn't think it'd be a popular title.Don't think FSY is getting a UK BD release either is it,DVD only?

I read a couple of times that DD used dubtitles instead of the partial subs that were on the DVD.Shingster wrote:Has someone actually properly confirmed that yet? I checked the Cine Asia BD in a few random spots and the subs were nothing like the dub (even the ending was corrected). Admittedly I wasn't going to watch the whole movie in English...lol So if someone has and knows better...
And given some of the cheap dogshit that makes it's way onto Blu Ray you'd imagine ANY film with Jet Li's name on it would make it's cost back and more.Shingster wrote:Well the way you've got to look at it, it isn't costing them anything to port DD titles over beyond the production costs of the BD discs, so if they thought a TCM/FSY BD wasn't financially viable then it means they don't believe they would make back said production costs.

I watched 'Tai Chi Master' UK DVD on the CRT and noticed the blending (hideous). Blurring is something different (similar to the effects of DVNR), where as blending is what happens here (fields from each original frame colliding with each other).
LCDs have a fixed rate (which I watched 'Fist Of Legend' on), which means there will be slightly uneven movement in fitting the PAL rate, but it didn't make it less noticeable.

So you're saying that Fist of Legend and Tai Chi Master suffer from the same or different flaws?
Brake it down for us eejits.

Yeah, both suffer from the same blending. Just saying there's not going to be a difference detecting it between LCDs/CRTs, and that blending and blurring at different things.Markgway wrote:So you're saying that Fist of Legend and Tai Chi Master suffer from the same or different flaws?

Cine-Asia provides corrected subtitles ending (despite improper translation of the place), but introduces typos not on the US disc (according to Shingster). However, I believe criticisms about occasional dipping into dubtitles, etc apply to both versions.

You just can't win.
Apparently the blending on TCM is worse than on FOL so the DD BD (of the former) could prove a bit of a nightmare.
But what else is there...?
