Drunken Master II Uncut, Anamorphic DVD

Post by RickyTheDragonSteamboat »

Got this off ebay the other day, popped it into my player and low and behold: It's Drunken Master II in 16:9 with Cantonese audio. I must admit I've been waiting for something like this for a very long time and don't really give a shit if it's a boot or not. It's Drunken Master II, what can I say?!?! So if the powers that be can't (won't) make it happen, then what other choice have we got?

Exactly!

Does it have English subs? Could you post any eBay links? Is it good AV?

One word: Bootleg. If you really want the best and have a home theatre PC then you can find a 720p rip of the US Blu-ray with added Cantonese audio.

In cases like this, I wouldn't care less.

That reminds me of the Fist of Legend DVD Rip I had. It was the French DVD with English fansubs.

Forget ebay. I just found it on worldflixdvd.com for a better price. In terms of A/V quality it is quite good considering there are physically 2 movies on a single dvd-9. The uncut version includes Cantonese mono and Jackie Chan English dub with optional English subs. The edited version features Cantonese, Mandarin, French, JC English dub & last but not least, the hilarious Golden Harvest English dub. Subtitles are provided in English, English HoH, Korean, Thai & Traditional Chinese. The video for both versions is sourced from the excellent Miramax print. The original ending is spliced in from an inferior source but I always hated those final moments. If paying $25 for Disney's piece of shit bluray isn't your cup of tea then you're gonna dig this disc.

There was discussion at Kung Fu Cinema (http://www.kungfucinema.com/forums/show ... hp?t=10894) on it.

Quality is quite good. Dead giveaway that its a bootleg is that the film cuts off before the creditsfinish rolling. Yep, it occurs right before all the MPAA and Miramax copyright stuff pop up. But i dont give a shit.

It's not as if you can get a better legal version.

Cropped to fuck Thakral DVD but at least it has the right audio or great looking Disney DVD but completely ruined with an English dub. I've watched both versions and despite Jackie doing the English dubbing, the Thakral easily wins but the picture is so much worse.

I don't mind the bootleg, I'm just saying it could have been better produced.

Talking of which, I contacted Disney and they confirmed to me today that there's no current plans for releasing it in the UK (or 'Twin Dragons'). They passed on my request that both HK and export versions are acquired.

There are logos for CAV and Thakral on the back of the box, but doubt this is a legit release. Who gives a fuck anyway?

It's a bootleg. Of course it could've been better produced. It was probably put together by some fan in his bedroom :D.

Thanks for checking but we know they'd just re-use the master they've already created anyway. It's out in Australia but I'm sure it's NTSC and just a port of the USA disc. It's definitely a Disney title, with the same cover art, dub etc...

They should allow someone else to buy it from them. If you've no plans to make money from it, why hold on to the rights?

Maybe, but it was worth a try :).
