I'd been thinking about this the other night as I watched Game of Death, thinking it would of been so much better if Bruce had been alive to complete it
Would the overall landscape of HK cinema been different but for his passing?
He is THE Legend, but what if he hadnt passed away? Would the torch still have been passed to Jackie, Sammo, Jet and others? Would he still be as highly regarded?
I wonder what he would think of the wuxia films like CTHD, Hero etc finding a Hollywood audience? Or cack hip-hop/MA flicks like Romeo Must Die?
I'm unfortunately no expert on HK cinema, particularly the martial arts genre. I'd say, it's perhaps my weakest area of expertise.
Lee was always pushing himself and taking on larger responsibilities. Game of Death would have been a major accomplishment, if it were finished. Who knows what he would've worked on next.
Having said that, the HK film industry is so vast, I'm not sure it would be drastically different if Lee were alive today. Simply because of the aforementioned stars such as Sammo, Jackie, Jet etc... who are all immensel talented in their own right. I do think that the industry would've been blessed with superb titles though.
Lee was always against the stereotypical image of the Chinese man, but seemed to always want to unite the East/West culture (which films like Romeo Must Die have done). Those films are quite cack though, as you say... so I doubt he'd be impressed in that sense.
