In this thread you can post screencaps from Google Earth. It can be a well-known monument, your house (or both ), anything.
I'll start:
The very dangerous and now defunct Kai Tak airport in Kowloon Bay, where the ending of In the Line of Duty 4 was shot (if memory serves).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
It's the Lantau-Island Buddha. which I visited this year. It's kinda hard to see on this pic but it's in the top right corner, (follow the long staircase)
In the left bottom you can see on old chinese temple, which we also visited this summer.
It was a nice to see both, but really not worth the trip for a 2nd time I think.
 I cannot get anything for my local town at all I even started threads about this on other forums too, but sadly the places I am from get no suport at all.
Am I doing something wrong? I am trying to find a place called Durham a pretty importand County! no pics at all!!!! are available to me, just one big blurry mess from miles above, someone serch for me as surley I have to be doing something wrong if you lot can get images of that quality!

Some places dont have good close-up images, its eems. I also cant get a good quality picture of where I live ... :'(
Most of the photos were taken between 2001 and 2003, I'd say.
Maybe the earlier ones were done at a higher altitude and lower resolution.
Some places like "Les Champs de Mars" (where the Eiffel Tower is) are beautifully detailed.

[quote="Tom2681"]Yep, some places are downright blurry.

That would explain why I couldn't find the new buildings on Lantau Island opposite the new airport, where I visited one day to go swimming. Only saw construction-work at that place when I looked at the google-earth maop/picture. Hopefully they keep updating the whole world with serious high-res stuff, or better yet, use a high-res super-zoom camera in 2-3 sattelites which we can use real-time/live!
Personally I use Formula 1 tracks to tell when the picture was taken.
For example, the Hockenheim layout in Germany was changed in 2002.
Google Earth still shows the old layout ( -> 2001 ).
However, the new Gilles Villeneuve layout ( Canada ) was under construction when the Google Earth picture was taken ( -> 2003 ).
