Re: World Cup Prediction game
Italy is a shite team anyway. Didn't really come as a surprise that they were as bad as they were, but like you said, they were in an easy group, so I am a bit surprised they didn't manage to survive the group-stage. Ah well, I'm glad those bastards are out.

Good play (and two cracking free kicks) from Japan has seen them victor 3-1 against Denmark and proceed to the 4th round.

For me Mexico won it. Spain, Honduras (I think it was) and S. Korea made up the semis. Tough choices there!

Re: World Cup Prediction game
We just weren't good enough today, in fact we were awful imo for most of the game.
Our defence was sh*te, Germany's first goal was schoolboy defending FFS.
We were good in flashes - I know its academic now but its' also a serious issue for football itself - why Lamps' goal was not allowed - I do not know
That was miles over the line FFS
In the 2nd half we were appalling - we need to score and so Capello takes Defoe off and brings on.... Heskey???

I said to my mate's after the Algeria match "look on the bright side, we can't possibly play worse than that in this tournament" boy was I fucking wrong!

Indeed and this is the first world cup I can remember where England have gone out and I couldn't care less, purely because we never played at all in this tournament, even the Slovenia win wasn't particularly impressive.

That was "reasonable" I guess but not impressive.

Re: World Cup Prediction game
Lampard's goal was obviously well over the line. I spotted it upon first real time viewing. I was amazed when it was disallowed. That 60 secs of play apart, however, Germany dominated and deserved the win. Far too much hype over the England team. Happens every tournament and will happen again next time. Two poor games and a slight 1-0 victory over a weak Slovenia and there were pundits talking about "we're gonna win this". When will they learn?

Re: World Cup Prediction game
I think every England fan has to say fair play to Germany as well, how many of us watched our opening games thinking that if/when we go up against a half decent side who could pass and run and strike we would get well and truly hammered, and Germany proved us all right in the end!
They're still the luckiest bastards in international football tournaments though getting away with our 2nd goal!
(not that I think it mattered at all to the game)

I agree Germany dominated - could have scored 6 or 7 TBH. In the 2nd half they were so good and made it look very easy.

Re: World Cup Prediction game
Rooney was awful. He obviously wasn't match fit. I think it might be something to do with his temper as well. He was warned about controlling his temper etc, had he put a tackle in the whole tournament or done anything of worth? No.
Capello said he would pick players based on form, not reputation. When the WC comes, he did the opposite, so is the manager under pressure to pick players?

The final was between Mexico and Italy, and Italy won by a nipple.grim_tales wrote:Which country has the hottest girl?

However, I have to say the asian countries didn't have worthy contestants.
Anyway, about the game today: I was at my girlfriend's house and we were out shopping, so I haven't been able to see the first half, and I started watching it from the 50th/55th minute orso. It was the period where England were pressing so that looked good, but after the 2 break-away goals which sealed the match, it was pretty damn obvious England's organisation was shite...
Only found out about the disallowed goal once I got home tonight and watched MOTD. What a shame. Blatted should be shot in the face!
Also a extremely poor goal allowed in the Mexico-Argentina game.
Anyway, Germany did obviously deserve the win, but England deserved the chance to hope for another outcome if that goal had stood.
Tomorrow Holland is playing Slovakia. Not sure what to expect. In theory we have the better players, yet at the same time Holland hasn't been playing very well this tournament (yet the 3 matches before the tournament were outstanding and gorgeous to watch...), so I just hope they won't underestimate the opponent and give it all they have (and can).

Re: World Cup Prediction game
Yeah, England's defence/organisation was shite for lots of the game and those 2 breakaway goals, but that goal from Lampard deserved to stand as you say. I mean it wasnt even disallowed, the douche of a ref didnt see it (!)

Its OK.
I think the 2 quick goals turned the game too and England giving the ball away.

Bo-ring! Yet another Hispanic team thru to the quarters.
That's five out of eight (either Spain or Portugal go thru tonight).
What happened to the World Cup?

Nothing happened to the world cup. It just seems like the 'hispanic' teams are doing better this year than normal.Markgway wrote:Bo-ring! Yet another Hispanic team thru to the quarters.

A shame about Japan going out, and I could swear I saw a couple of elbows which deserved a red card, but tbh no-one really deserved to win this match...

Well, as long as the Dutch go out, I'll be happy. What a bunch of fucking bores they've been. One good player (Robben) and ten useless tits. I watched all four of their games and you'd be hard pushed to find 15 mins of good play. Ghana are obviously going out. I'd say Germany are the only non-hispanic team with a chance.

Re: World Cup Prediction game
You're correct about Holland: they have been shite so far. Wouldn't surprise me if they'll lose to Brazil. They really need to kick Van Persie out of the forward-position, and get Huntelaar back in. Would also prefer either Elia or Afellay on the left-wing position, although of Robben is fit he'll play on the right-wing, and Kuyt did very well on the left wing last match. Kuyt is always great btw.
