Thanks for doing these Salty but can you start to resize the DVDs to the same resolution please. It makes it difficult to be able to compare. Due to the DVDs much smaller size, they both look nearly the same. When I'm sure that isn't the case.

Is the BD much better looking? It's one I want to upgrade to.

I'm happy that Salty is doing these comparisons, whatever the cap size. But yeah, if I actually want to know the difference, then I have to resize them myself cause like Brad says, you can't tell the difference when they are different size.

I am too. I didn't say I wasn't.

Old School doesn't know what he/she is talking about. It's standard practise/what every site does. To view DVD vs. BD comparisons.

it's no hardship to resize but there seems to be conflicting opinions

:)
i will await site guru and cap expert Shingster's ruling and will follow his advice from now on.for now,i've added resized caps.

I too appreciate Sam's caps. Just so you know. But for me the biggest issue is that the BD caps suffer from jpeg compression. Makes every BD look horrible. Harder to judge the quality and any improvement.

Every BD cap i've seen here is jpeg format,it gets scaled down in the conversion process. If you know of a better way to upload these caps rather than jpeg then i'm all ears.

There's PNG files or less JPEG compression.

Everyone is happy Salty is posting captures, lets put that nonsense to bed.

What is Chenlung on about? Virtually everyone who posts DVDs vs. BD captures, upscales the DVD resolution to match the BD. Even many/most on this site.

I too think captures should be the same size as each other, for what it's worth.

I don't know how to do BD caps let alone the best compression method. Sorry, Sam.

Spannick would probably know. Has he been here lately?

Contains batch files for resizing. There's minimal JPEG compression, as in you can't tell on a monitor.

Late to this thread but yes I prefer to enlarge my DVD caps when doing a SD/HD comparison. If you can do it without any hassle then that's what I'd do Sam (I use Lourdes' batch file in that bnb.zip myself), but I don't think it ultimately matters that much because the reader can always resize the DVD grabs themselves should they want to compare more accurately. The only important thing is that you're doing these comparisons and providing accurate DVD grabs - whatever the size.

As for the original resolution/blown up to 1080px debate, obviously blowing up is going to be the best way to compare the images as the SD image is going to be upscaled/blown up by your HD display/player/amp anyway.

Exactly. If it didn't do this, you'd have a big black frame around the picture :D.

Sam, I suggest to use png instead of jpeg for the comparison images from now on. Didn't even need to make a choice as the USA Blu-ray was a great upgrade from the USA DTS DVD I owned. Never got around to reading the graphic novel for some reason. It's Blu-ray disc or Blu-ray instead of Blu-Ray.
You can buy the USA Blu-ray release from Amazon.com and the UK Blu-ray release from Amazon.co.uk
I'm back AGAIN.
