I used to own the original Thai dvd of this and i'm pretty sure it wasn't 130 minutes long.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom-Yum-Goong), the French bought international rights.

DVD Compare also has details (http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=8923). Just looking at the overall section, I don't remember providing cut details - maybe I did :P !
The Premier Asia DVD is very good. I had no complaints.
Me too, but only popped it in once briefly (I only saw the full film once at the cinema in 2006). Shame it didn't include a commentary found on the Thai release. An English dub would have been interesting too.
grim_tales wrote:So when they say "uncut International version" it's actually cut by 20 mins?
No, it's uncut :). It just shouldn't be labelled international (technically, that's the French version's edit, as they bought the rights to them) - perhaps it was labelled like that to make the re-edited version seem less daunting?
Does the Thai version on PA's DVD have the original score or a new score like Ong Bak (which I thought was fine TBH).
Yeah, it's the original. In comparison to other versions though, it does apparently subtly loop some of Petchtai Wongkamlao's English dialogue (for better comprehension?).

One day I'll go off the radar completely, and soon after the news will be filled about brutal attacks on the bastards who are raping and molesting all these foreign movies... :icon_suspect:

You've gotta love it says "Theatrical Version" and it's 27 minutes shorter than the international cut :D.

They did something similar with Fearless. The back cover says "includes theatrical and unrated cuts". When in fact it's the "USA" theatrical cuts, unrated cut (i.e - usa theatrical cut but with the missing blood) and director's cut. It gets even more confusing when they re-used this cover in the UK. When we only ever got the unrated cut, meaning the "theatrical cut" reference on the back of the cover is incorrect. It's not the UK theatrical cut.
grim_tales wrote:So when they say "uncut International version" it's actually cut by 20 mins?
Where does it say that on the cover?

Premier Asia only changed the name. TYG is otherwise untouched and is the Original Thai Theatrical Cut, except for the looping Chen mentions. Which I wouldn't even call a censor but an improvement.

Although I don't really understand what looping means, what does it mean?

Okay Chen has managed to completely confuse me :D.

* The rear cover says Theatrical Cut. Is this the Dragon Dynasty Cut or another cut?
* The International Cut is actually the Uncut Thai Theatrical Cut, as seen on the Premier Asia DVD? - They really should've called this the Director's Cut or something similar. Like you say, calling it the International Cut is confusing.

If true, it wouldn't bother me. We're going to get TYG, Uncut, with DTS-HD MA on BD. They can label it as they like.

Industry slang - the sentence is repeated as the actor attempts to dub it right. ADR's a more accurate term, as it pertains to audio exclusively.

Yep.
We're going to get TYG, Uncut, with DTS-HD MA on BD.
According to that artwork, there's no DTS for the uncut version?

Oh yeah, well spotted .

I don't recall any dialogue being repeated. I guess it was.

Some good news: DD confirms on their facebook page that FOL, Protector and Seven Swords will all be in 1080p.

Isn't the UK FOL 1080p? I've lost track. Thanks btw. The DD Seven Swords is uncut right? Unlike the UK PA one which is cut (obviously not counting technically they're all cut).

DD's Seven Swords is uncut and 1080p. Unfortunately, the movie still sucks.

It is :D I'd love to see it on Blu, maybe DD will do it (hopefully properly) or one of the HK companies.
I'd like a good BD of 36th Chamber (the 1st one) :)
Havent seen the others.

It'll be interesting to see how TAI CHI MASTER turns out. I was planning on getting Cine Asia's DVD but might wait for this instead. If FONG SAI YUK is still cut I won't touch it.

Normally I'd see your point but what choice do we have? The only other DVDs are the ghastly Universe DVDs with their AWFUL 5.1. That feel is an important point, the 5.1 remixes are a disaster (not even remotely respectable 5.1 remixes). The other DVD is the Japanese DVD but it has no English subs.

I'd rather have the cuts than THAT 5.1 remix.

To be honest, it's alright really. There's no replaced effects and everything sounds fresh.

'Warrriors Two' is definitely horrible.

I'm surprised you of all people would say that. Sure the Universe Tai Chi Master sounds worse but FSY is awful too. I've kept it for now but will be upgrading.

I was going to get the DVD but now this BD is coming, I'll wait.

Don't get me wrong... I hate the Universe DVD.

But at least it's uncut. That's the version I'm used to. I couldn't make do with an edited version.

I already said, the quality of the picture is dreadful but worst of all, the 5.1 is really OTT, in your face and chucks the effects all of the bloody place (i.e - to all manner of speakers).

So are you basically saying you dislike cuts to a film more than a 5.1 remix? I'm just wondering.

Anybody find it weird that DD is now releasing BDs without any announcements? For example Kill Zone is now available at Best Buy along Fong Sai Yuk, Legend of the Black Scorpion and Tai Chi Master.
