Nice improvement. Shame it's still the R-rated version though.

Its always surprised me that parts 1 and 5 never got unrated DVDs, considering New Line is normally quite good about that.

Actually the cuts were so minor that I'm sure if New Line resubmitted the film now it would get an uncut 'R'. Same with Part 5. I don't know why that was given an NC-17 but not the other sequels. Sometimes it's pot luck.

The MPAA has no fixed guidelines, I recall. It depends on who sits on the panel.

RAMBO is an uncut 'R' but FORTRESS was an NC-17 (before cuts).

Go figure.

Rambo is an R because Stallone has clout. The whole MPAA system is a corrupt joke. As Ivan says, who can you NOT have guidelines? The whole thing needs an overhaul but obviously it won't. To go down on sex so harshly but so lightly on violence is also a joke MPAA.

They wanted to give Scarface an NC-17 Depalma complained and got the same cut reduced to an R. Now it's great it means we get it uncut (as NC-17 would've obviously just meant cut R) but director's with clout really shouldn't be able to tell the censorship board was to say.

"This Film Is Not Yet Rated" shows us how much of a mess the MPAA is. I'd never go on their say on what a film contains. The BBFC has it's faults but is a million light years ahead in professionalism and unbiased opinion. If I lived in America and had kids I'd look to the BBFC to tell me whether it was suitable. Their website is fantastic and even better know they give detailed reasons why it got this and that certificate.

Whilst I'm no fan of the BBFC getting films cut and stuff, I do remember Edward Scissorhands distressing me when he's repeatedly beaten to the floor near the end, and funnily enough that's what got cut in the UK DVD.

Mind you those cuts were for a 'PG' and thus understandable.

The '12' cert DVD is uncut.

I saw that doc on the MPAA. It was interesting.

Nicked this post from dvdforums:

"Right - I've just checked the mono and DTS-MA tracks and both have noticeable sync issues which are not present on the R2 dvd.

Other people have been reporting the problem too (on different machines)"

That's odd given that it appears the mono track is different to the remixes after all and not the same as the downmix on the Infinifilm DVD. Many posters have claimed that most (if not all - there's some debate about a face-ripping) of the effects missing from the remixes are present on the mono track. I wonder why two seperate tracks therefore would be OOS. I know the film had a fair amount of ADR - I wonder if it's poor ADR syncing? Although if the R2 DVD is fine, it might just be a Warner error.

I'm not sure that would put me off. I've yet to spot sync issues on any of the discs I've ever owned that are supposed to have sync issues. Unless it's extreme, I doubt I'd notice.
