You have got to be kidding LD, it looks like bland dirge, and why the fuck are they calling it The Karate Kid when he seems to be so blatantly learning Kung Fu? Today's audiences are not so ignorant that they don't know the feckin difference!

Chances of Markgway going to see this: 0%

Do they have to have hip hop stuck on the soundtrack of every martial arts movie? I mean, is it fucking mandatory?

And if Jackie does take second billing to an unknown kid he should hand his balls in at the studio door.

Well of course the Hippety Hop has to be mandatory and JC must take 2nd billing to the little black kid, only African-Americans go to watch martial arts films, silly!

Not trying to defend the title here, but there should better be a decent explanation to why it was retitled from "The Kung Fu Kid" to "The Karate Kid".

As for Jackie handing in his balls for taking second bill, come on, Mark. I mean it is a truly dubious move on Sony Pictures' behalf to give him second billing. However, why should Jackie insist? He knows that he is a household name around the world and he is no diva or prima donna with hurt vanities due to second billing. Heck, the guy even cleans the set with a broom if there is nothing else to do. That's just his personality.

Sony think Americans patrons are stupid?

Because Jackie has earned top billing with decades of hard work and internationally popularity. To give an unknown kid top billing is an insult. It's not even about vanity. Smith Jr. has no right to get top billing. He's done nothing to earn it. Jackie's agent must be soft in the head. You think Bruce Willis or Arnold Schwarzenegger would take second billing to Smith? Not a snowball's chance... I don't know if it's because Jackie's Chinese or because it's just him personally but Hollywood really takes the piss.

Jaden plays the lead character. The movie is all about the kid, not about teacher Jackie.

I gotta say, I watched the trailer this afternoon, and although I was very skeptical at first about this premise, the trailer looks very good. Nice cinematography, nice acting, and it just looks 'mature', instead of the usual 'clean' Hollywood kiddycrap.

That's obviously not the point.

I think that is the point. The movie is about the kid. It's 'nice' that Jackie is playing the teacher, cause he's well-known and all that, but the movie is about the kid. Pure and simple. He should get top billing.

Yeah that makes sense, if Jackie got top billing some dumbasses might think it's a Jackie Chan film.

Jackie is the only big star in Hollywood gullable enough to take second billing to an unknown kid. You know no one else would. It's demeaning. Jackie has spent decades earning top billing. That the kid is the central character is totally irrelevant. We're not talking a cameo here. Jackie is present throughout the trailer and appears to be a major part of the film. He absolutely should've got top billing. And I thought taking second billing to no talent Chris Tucker was bad.

I think Yi is right though, the move is called THE KARATE KID, not Karate Teacher or Master or something.

Yi is of course completely wrong and as if to prove the extraordinary level of his wrongness Grim and Podboy have agreed with him. I rest my case.

Hey! :(
LD is also right, Jackie is a star and legend, but I think still lots of people will go and see the film.

"THE KARATE KID remake, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, has garnered the second highest test score among research audiences in studio history according to Sony Pictures. The top scorer remains Will Smith’s 2005 comedy HITCH."

Erm...

Besides how many times have we had megaflops followed up with statements by studio execs saying "oh, but we had great preview scores". Means nothing until the gross comes in.

The poster is almost the same as High Kick Girl

Image Image

Will Smith's son doing kung fu under the title "Karate Kid"? Or a Japanese 17 year old girl - a real life black belt holder, btw - in school uniform kicking guys in the head? Do I even need to ask?

In the trailer, around 1:18, when Jackie says "Focus", did anyone else mishear him? The first time I heard it I could've swore he said "Fock this!" Maybe it was a red band trailer...
