Deadly Duo: Blu Ray
Tokyo Shock are releasing Shaw classic DEADLY DUO (Chang Cheh, 1971) on BD in January.
Apparently their DVDs are top-notch so this should be one to look out for.

Use WinDVD(try to get version 8 cause Version 9 and up suck ass) and you should be able to take bd caps. I dont have a dvd drive that is blu ray capable, so I cant 100% verify.saltysam wrote:Ordered this from playusa last week for £12.99.i have the dvd, which looks good.may be getting a BD drive for xmas,so if i ever learn how to take BD caps i may do a comparision.

Anybody else think this is a dumb release for MB's 1st SB blu ray? I would have wanted them to put the money/effort from doing this blu ray and releasing 5 Element Ninjas on time instead. So is theoretically improved picture quality the only reason to get this? I cant imagine subs being different from the dvd release or any other additional extras.
Slightly off topic question, but didn't Brentwood release a Blu Ray version for Life Gamble(or was it Opium & The Kung Fu Master)? If so, was there any significant difference between the 2?

Nope, you can't use the likes of PowerDVD and WinDVD to take BD screengrabs.oldeschool17 wrote:Use WinDVD(try to get version 8 cause Version 9 and up suck ass) and you should be able to take bd caps. I dont have a dvd drive that is blu ray capable, so I cant 100% verify.

Re: Deadly Duo: Blu Ray
I wonder if the extras are HD (thinking about the interviews, but I doubt anything else). I've got the DVD and it's pretty good - it was a blessing compared to the reported remix travesty on the IVL release, also with a bad conversion and sub-par subtitles! However, there's a few things I just noticed (from memory):
1) The English mono has the Shaw ident in its brassed-up version. Minor I suppose, but still curious.
2) The subtitles need tightening up a little bit generally, but I believe they were still very good.
3) The biggest problem was David Chiang's featurette because it has embedded interlacing artifacts. Ti Lung's doesn't have this problem.
A very good, but flawed range of Shaws (based on the first four and no 6 'Martial Club' - the rest I haven't seen) - I just wish that they're inspected properly (preferably by a fan/expert - in confidence or whatever) to avoid such errors, also acknowledging all advice (they have done for some which is great, but stuff like translating the correct language isn't). I wonder what their Blu-Ray will be like - we'll be getting 7 out of 10 titles (if all are selected from their first batch) as the remaining three are PAL only.

I think the choice of films is a bit naff. Deadly Duo and Brave Archer are the tedious quota pictures that make Shaw films so tedious for me.
Wish they would release Bruce Lee And I though, so what do I know?

Not gonna happen. You'll be lucky if its presented in true 1080p and not some upscale job.chenlung wrote:I wonder if the extras are HD (thinking about the interviews, but I doubt anything else). Would pick up Heroic Ones, if they get the sound correct, improve the subtitles and include the original SB trailer.

Yeah becuase thats soo important. You have the film, so you soooo need a trailer for the film as wellgrim_tales wrote: and include the original SB trailer.
