Live & Let Die BD 2/5
Rather dated Bond effort (Moore's first)is enjoyable enough but pretty much hampered by a woeful performance by Jane Seymour as the lead Bond Girl. Gloria Hendry was far more interesting but gets bumped off early
Trick R' Treat BD 3.5/5
Nifty little Halloween horror is a throwback to Creepshow and the like. Not particularly scary but very atmospheric and well made.a nice surprise.

Didn't care for Gloria Hendry in Live and let Die. That voodoo shit got on my tits.
Jane Seymour isn't much of an actress but let's just say her character wouldn't stay a virgin very long with me around...

What you mean she'd go and seduce some big handy bastard just to get him to chase you off? icon_suspectMarkgway wrote:Jane Seymour isn't much of an actress but let's just say her character wouldn't stay a virgin very long with me around...

BTW: The Region A of QUANTUM OF SOLACE is cut as per the UK version. So buy whichever edition you like there's no difference.

Thanks Mark. What's cut exactly? I looked at the BBFC but it's not clear. I suspect it was pre-cut and not censor cut, if you will.

I think LIVE AND LET DIE is a classic
(Well it was the last time I saw it).

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5
The distributor made pre-cuts. Not the BBFC's fault. All they said after viewing the rought cut was 'don't make it more intense and you're fine'. That obviously translated to the filmmakers as 'we better cut something or else'. Stupid, really. We'll never know if the uncut version would've passed with that 12A. The cuts are all to the finale. Reduction of sexualised violence (against the hotel maid and Camille). Also a line of dialogue was removed from the scene where Bond and Camille are trapped in the fire (I doubt that this was purely censorship-perhaps just a last minute piece of editing). Also a scene where Bond kills an assassin was removed entirely. No idea where in the film this would've fitted in (the BBFC weren't too specific). Again, not sure if this was a pre-emptive censorship cut or just natural scene removal? Otherwise the version the BBFC first saw and the theatrical releases were the same.bradavon wrote:Thanks Mark. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (CZ, 1970): ?/5
I had to watch this for film class. What was that all about? I thought it was going to be like Emmanuelle or something at first but it isn't purely about self discovery. Rather weird in places with a story which at first seems to be about a young girl and her grandmother - but then adds lecherous priests, folk music, vampires/monsters and a bit of lesbianism - strange combination

Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone 3/5
Have to admit i enjoyed this more than i thought i would,a decent fantasy film with an excellent cast (thugh some of the child acting is a little ropey) sags a little in the middle but overall ok,i'll be watching the rest (eventually)
Inglourious Basterds BD 3/5
Not Tarantino's best but still a fine effort, very entertaining if a little overlong.the basterds themselves are actually only given fairly limited screen time and i'm not sure what to make of Brad Pitt's tongue-in-cheek performance.Christoph Waltz is superb as the nazi "jew hunter" and easily the best thing in the movie.

Doghouse 1.5/5
British horror comedy is full of crass, obnoxious characters and quickly outstays it's welcome. Is Danny Dyer in every british movie currently made

Moon BD 2.5/5
Heard great things about this movie, left me a little disappointed to be honest.good performance by Sam Rockwell and excellent set design but i don't think it's a movie i'd revisit in a hurry.Still i paid £9 and got £11 back at CEX so result!

Ha ha at both of those
.
Both look awful and I believe you require a vagina to watch them. As I don't have one, I'm out.

Harry Potter & The Chamber Of Secrets 2.5/5
Not bad but i preferred the first one.Alan Rickman is criminally underused again, hopefully he'll come to the fore in the later films.
