Hey I have not even seen 5 Venoms (amazingly) and I have a shedload of the Shaw discs, but for some reason it always seems a bit dodgy to me (not even sure why and I took the chance on some real crappy Shaws). Still I need to see more Shaws, it seems like eons since I last bought any, and I did notice the other day loads of new releases are still flooding the market! may buy this and see whats what
Yup I think I have seen most of the so called Classics (that were released up until about a year ago) it may have been the gimpy wrestler maskes that put me off haha
If I can get it for a few quid it may be worth a try, no way I would pay loads for Shaws anymore, they are so uneven in quality and style you can love and hate so many, I ended up getting rid of a fair few as they just were so poor (and some so good).
I think The Five Venoms is great fun and the best of Chang Cheh's late period (post 1977). Also worth a look form this era are Invincible Shaolin, Crippled Avengers, Two Champions of Shaolin, and (his last genuinely good movie) Five Element Ninjas.
I find it OK but too slow and drab for its own good. It does have some marvellously gruesome moments though. The only standouts of the Venoms films for me are Crippled Avengers and Masked Avengers.
And the masks are in the film very briefly, so don't worry!
