How weird Fox would bother to Region locked the American disc but not elsewhere. I hadn't spotted.

Bond is a perfect example for you buy BD Multi-region is definitely still compulsory. Imagine if you'd got a UK BD Player and had to make do with the 5.1 remixes. Obviously you'd have made do with the DVDs, which would be a shame.

I'd love Bond on BD but not with 5.1 remixes :(

All the Bonds on BD have 5.1 remixes. Which ones do you have?

None on BD so far - but on DVD:

OHMSS UE
Dr No UE
You Only Twice UE
Goldfinger UE
A View to Kill UE R1
Spy Who Loved Me UE R1
Live and Let Die UE R1
TND R1 SE
TWINE UE (R2)
Goldeneye SE R2 (uncut)

And CR/QoS.

I think thats it.

I have 5 Bonds on BD and they just sound Mono/stereo anyway.

I have the first box set, so Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, For Your Eyes Only, Live and Let Die, and Die Another Day. That's six then, but DAD obviously isn't meant to be mono anyway.

From Goldeneye onwards there's no problem since these were all digital sound and I can pick up the UK discs.

But audio purists will need the US releases for the original mono and stereo tracks on pre-90s titles (Dr. No to The Man with the Golden Gun for mono; The Spy Who Loved Me to Licence to Kill for stereo).

I won't be buying all the Bonds, but probably a majority (the weakest period is from the late 60s to the mid 70s).

My mistake Grim. I thought you said you have, not would like. Like Mark you'll have to own a BD MR Player then or Region A only, which will discount many Optimum RB BDs.

Exactly. I agree. Not Mono but definitely Stereo. Except for the Dalton ones onwards obviously. Where they're all some sort of Surround any way. I'm basing this on the DVDs but the remixes will be the same.

Fair enough to those who insist on Mono though.

I take your point on Mono but won't the Stereo ones sound pretty damn good in 5.1? Especially the Daltons, where they're Dolby Surround, so made with Surround in mind. As far as I know, no new foley has been added.

I'm only planning to pick up Tomorrow Never Dies myself. I already own Casino Royale. Licence to Kill is very good but tbh it's not one I'd rush to upgrade. The UE DVD is perfectly fine, the same goes for the other Bonds I own on UE and SE DVD. I hope they've fixed the pink on Tomorrow Never Dies!

Bond is clearly lots of fun but none I really consider outstanding. They're all good action/thrillers but not something I'd rush to get on BD. Especially as they're all so similar too. BD also simply costs way too much to consider getting several Bond BDs, like you can DVD.

They'll sound good... but according to my experience comparing the R1 DVDs not quite as good. The films are originally mixed by film sound engineers not video engineers who never do as professional a job. Taking something that pre-exists and tampering with it is always risky in my book. No new foley though which makes them much less offensive to my ears than mono remixes.

The R1 UE was fixed.

I'm prone because they're my kind of movie. Doesn't get much better than watching 007 in action.

Do the Bond Mono UE DVDs have added foley then?
The R1 UE was fixed.
Are you sure? Great, thanks.

Yes. There's a cap comparison on this forum. See for yourself.

Read somewhere (can't remember where) that the Bond BD's haven't sold very well and there are currently no plans for any more releases at the moment.probably bullshit.

Hard to imagine Bond not selling well. Even the lesser titles you would think would be bought by enough fans to make a dent. The last batch came out in June - am I right? If there's no more within the next 3 months you might be onto something.

DIE HARD 2 (UK)

Anyone got an opinion on the DTS-master audio for this one?
The Dolby 2.0 from the US release has naturally been dropped.

MAXIMUM RISK (UK)

Rewind claim that the BD is cut as per the DVD and VHS versions. Yet I've read elsewhere that the cuts have been restored and slipped out without BBFC classification. Anyone know?

The DTS-HD MA on Die Hard is good. It's the sort of film that lends itself really well to a 5.1 remix. I cannot comment about DH2 sorry.
