Gomorrah - Italian Mafia drama

This is supposed to be really good. It was released last Friday over here, it's not in my cinemas yet though.

Gomorra (Italy, 2008) – 2,5/5
No romanticizing in this Italian mafia pic. With a wide variety of characters and determination to aim at maximum level of realism, Gomorra sacrifices entertainment values a few times along the way, but definitely offers something to think about when leaving the theatre. Because of the scattered structure I also suspect that the film might hold up better on a repeated viewing. Those interested in the subject will probably gain their reward immediately.

Gomorra author to flee Italy after death threat

firstly, the Camorra are NOT the mafia, they are two seperate and individual crime organizations and work in very very different ways, infact the Cammora outnumber the Mafia and are more brutal. They operate completley different crime sydicates, the Camorra being forerunners for drugs, waste disposal and high fashion. They do not abide by the family ties and friendships that the Sicilian Mafia do, and have far less morals. The Sicilian mafia even have their own ten commandments about abiding by life in the Mafiso. But i guess not many people know about the Camorra, so calling them the Mafia gets more interest.

Anyway Gomorrah is a book by jounralist Roberto Saviano, a native to naples who worked in the lower circles of the Camorra. In his book and during his investigations he met many people, and named names and what they had done. Needless to say the Cammora or rather "the system" as they are known, are not happy and thus threatened his life, understandably, though rare as they operate in relative obscurity really in the regions of Naples such as Secondigliano and Casal Di Principe (town of the author). They are the perpetrators of almsot 4000 murders in the latter area in the last 10 years. The book came out last year in Italy and since then Saviano has been under the guard of police guard in the notrh of Italy. The movie is based on the book of Saviano, in which each chapter deals with a specific aspect of the Camorra organization. This is why the film seems to be so disconnected and jumpy.
