Yep agreed. Tell No One is a brilliant and engaging thriller.

Just been catching up on some Spielberg I've been meaning to give a proper watch since childhood!

Jaws : excellent, well crafted and still very affective adventure/thriller. Really surprised how much I enjoyed it, but it's a quality film. 4.5/5

E.T. : Ditto. Just picked up the 3 Disc'er, and give the Theatrical cut a crack. Loads of sentiment, loads of fun and packed with things to tug at my nostalgia of growing up at that time. Impressive production design and lovely photography (curious but affective use of horror style visuals, and beautiful lenses) helps it stand up today but of course it's a brilliant film! 4.5/5

Amistad
A.I.

I haven't seen 1941 and Indiana Jones 4, so I can't comment on those.

The Lost World is schlocky fun, a guilty pleasure for sure.

Wow what a crushing disappointment this is.bland and boring,the cast tries hard to no avail.Dillinger etc have been put on screen before in far better movies than this one.

Arnie's forgotten movie? Not the brainest, but I liked it. A bit different in style and content than most of his films. And much better than Red Heat, Brad!! 8)

Re. THE LOST WORLD - This was the only one of the J.PARK films I really liked. Most people dissed it - but maybe I liked it for the reasons they didn't? Darker, wittier, and better-paced, IMHO, and the jungle setting was cooler than the frankly naff theme park.

Hilarious and shocking, at times I couldn't breathe because I was in such fits of laughter and awe, easily on a par with Borat, it's a shame he didn't do his Ali G film like this. I hope they release it on DVD/BD in an unrated form, featuring La Toya Jackson etc.

Rosso (Finland, 1985) – 3,5/5
Mika Kaurismäki’s film about a Cicilian contract killer who is given an impossible task to travel to Finland and find a woman whose whereabouts are unknown. He can’t find the woman, but runs into a half-crazy Finnish drifter. Tired of life he decides to hook up with him for no reason, even though they lack common language. Together they ride through a cold country full mud searching for someone, something, nothing. Not exactly good advertisement for Finland, but Kaurismäki’s dry film making is certainly enjoyable. A lot of the film is improvised, there were only six people in the filming crew, and they only used left-over film from other movies. Sometimes the length of the scene was decided by how much film they had available. Re-takes were usually out of question. Still, the most exceptional thing is that the Cicialian contrack killer is played by a terrific Finnish actor, Kari Väänänen. All his lines are in Italian. Is he convincing? Well, accodring to Kaurismäki one Italian reporter asked him why he had hired a Sardinian actor to play a Cicilian character!

As I said it will be interesting to see how the Japanese disc does thats for sure and how much more it pulls out of the darkness

Looks like the Japanese disc is the same transfer as the UK one after all

£5 for UK or £30+ for Japanese, me thinks I know which haha

Even if it is the same transfer the japanese disc uses far superior encoding techniques

not £30 worth superior though. And of course i can play it on both my machines unlike the uk disc. :)plus it's EIV :shock: Where is it for £5 btw?

It was £5 many moons ago, no idea now

but its EIV, all their discs are cheap as chips.

and yes I also HATE EIV, mind you I do own 2 discs from them which are perfect Death Warrent and Rush Hour 3.

isn't Death Sentence 1080i encoded? and doesn't have the longer version as an option?if so then it's not perfect

I noticed on the US release of Death Sentence it has the usual UNRATED EDITION hyperbole. But having seen a comparison it's quite obvious that it's just another of those 'cutting room floor sweepings' jobs. No restored violence just odds and ends of little consequence. Whilst films which actually NEED unrated releases are withheld.

Yup the UK disc is 1080i, but anyone seeing a difference between i and p is better than me and I am one picky bugger, and I dont know one person who can see a difference in real life, even on very expensive equipment.
i and p all seems equipment dependent, so I guess if you have a screen which is not great at 1080i it may judder etc.. then it may stand out more and bug you

and the longer cut I would indeed like as an option, but hey its not exactly footage we need, I expected hardcore killing in the new styff when I researched I was peed

Haunting In Connecticut BD 2/5

Another in a long line of supposedly true haunted house tales is a passable watch but brings nothing really new to a tired genre.i watched the unrated cut which was pretty tame,i imagine there is little difference from the theatrical edit.
