The German DVD is worse quality (IVL is sharper). It looks to be a PAL>NTSC>PAL non-anamorphic upconvert from IVL.

What we need is a release that is genuine PAL as to retain it's sharpness with no interlacing/ghosting issues. Sadly, I don't think Celestial created an anamorphic or HD version either.

Admittedly, I wasn't always sure about claiming it could be PAL>NTSC>PAL.

It could be genuine PAL, but with the interlaced flag intact - saltysam could skip frames with the de-interlacer on and tell us if there's ghosting.

I have the Finnish dvd, which uses the Dutch Filmworks transfer and I'm 99% sure it's progressive. I haven't watched movie yet. When I find time I'll add caps. But it might take a few weeks.

The German probably uses the same transfer then.

The German does look a fraction softer than the IVL, though with the caps at different sizes it's harder to tell. Also the German disc appears to be interlaced, not progressive. Is it me or do the colours seem tweaked slightly between the two? The skintones on the German look to my eyes a smidgen over-saturated. But I'm no expert...

That 1% came true, partly. It seems some parts of the film are interlaced while others are progressive. There's some compression artifacts, too. I didn't pay attention to them during the film, but noticed while taking caps. The film is on dvd-5.

The runtime is 1.58:04. Audio is original mandarin.

Hopefully Dragon Dynasty will do a good job of this sooner rather than later.
