Recently the BBC have showed He's Having A Baby (about how dads cope with parenthood), ITV did Mums on Strike which I've seen (basically how fucking useless dads are at domestic chores while the wife goes away on holiday and watches them with a secret camera) - BBC2 show Bring Your Husband To Heel (which I havent seen yet but sounds like degrading, sexist shite).
BYHTH is supposed to be humourous apparently, based on the premise that men share 85% of their DNA with dogs (!)
I'm not advocating any sort of sexism towards anyone - but I'm sorry, programmes like that could never be made if they had titles like Bring Your Wife/Girlfriend to Heel.
Double standards methinks

you see, all these shows do is try and provide a justifiable reason why women need to play the stereotypical woman in the relationship, because men are crap at it. its merely stealth sexism...
Yeah it's sexist. Saw a show on dutch tv tonight (just a glimpse) which was about internet dating, and there were all these women on who complained about their dates, about them being nice on the chat and all, and then they would get a picture of the guys and they'd be ugly and they'd immediately stop the contact etc.
One had made a date with a guy to go get a beer on a terrace, she sees the guy that suited the description, and decides he's not worthy of her and walks past the guy and leaves...
...and everyone was laughing and joking about this, as if it's funny that these women were judging these guys on their appearance alone...
Now, imagine it was a bunch of guys bragging about them only judging women on their looks, and making fun of the ugly ones!?
I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
now, individuals are always the exception to the rule. its the individuals that mak life worth living. the majority of people arent individuals. the majority of bothmen and women do go on looks first and formost. Ive done the internet dating thing and im sorry to say that it is not uncommon for women to decide you dont look quite how they imagined and not turn up/walk by. Its not fair, but it is human nature.
and tv execs arent bright enough to directly produce these shows to be sexist, they are merely providing viewing that their audience want, which in this case is sexist crap that makes the majority feel ok about being so. you dont get male viewers to watch a show by declaring how sexist they are, you get them to watch by making them feel put upon unfairly. you get the women to watch because they like the idea that they have the power. its a genius move in terms of getting ratings because its at just about the right moronic level to appeal to the masses
